Block the full September 24 to October 18 tournament window

Riot’s 2026 schedule places Champions Shanghai after the regional Stage 2 season ends. The official event window is fixed, but the tournament overview does not yet break every group and playoff day into final match times. Treat any detailed daily schedule as provisional until it appears on VALORANT Esports.

Tournament format

Four GSL groups feed an eight team double elimination bracket

The group stage starts with 16 teams split into four groups of four. Every group match is best of three. A team needs two wins to advance, while two losses eliminate it. The top two from every group reach the playoffs.

These two series are best of five. Other playoff series are best of three.

Series length: group stage and most playoffs use best of three. Lower final and grand final use best of five.
Qualification

Every territory sends two Stage 2 teams and two points teams

Americas, EMEA, Pacific and China each receive four slots. Two go to the top finishers in that territory’s Stage 2 Playoffs. Two more go to the highest Championship Point teams that have not already qualified through the playoffs.

AmericasFour slots

Two from Stage 2 Playoffs and two from Championship Points.

EMEAFour slots

Two from Stage 2 Playoffs and two from Championship Points.

PacificFour slots

Two from Stage 2 Playoffs and two from Championship Points.

ChinaFour slots

Two from Stage 2 Playoffs and two from Championship Points.

The 2026 Path to Champions also lets Challenger teams reach regional Stage 2 Playoffs. A Challenger roster can therefore qualify for Shanghai by surviving the Play-In and finishing high enough in the Stage 2 Playoffs.

Qualified teams

The official 16 team list is not locked yet

Riot’s Champions Shanghai page currently displays TBD across the qualifying field. That is the correct status on July 13. The regional Stage 2 races still decide who earns direct playoff slots and who secures the remaining Championship Point positions.

Do not publish yetA complete team list

Favourites are not qualifiers until the official standings mark them through.

Update nextTerritory by territory

Add each confirmed team with its qualification route and final seed.

Final updateGroups and opening matches

Only add the bracket after Riot publishes the official draw.

Accuracy rule: a high Championship Point total does not always mean qualification is mathematically locked. Wait for the official team page or territory announcement.
Groups and seeding

Wait for the official draw before predicting the bracket

The format guarantees four GSL groups and two playoff teams from each group. The current event overview does not publish the group draw. Once Riot locks the 16 teams, seeds and draw restrictions determine the opening matchups.

Group goalReach two wins

Two wins send a team to playoffs. Two losses end its tournament.

Opening riskBest of three pressure

Every group series can immediately change the path through the GSL bracket.

Playoff rewardEight teams remain

The top two in each group advance to the double elimination stage.

Do not promise Drops until the event promotion officially confirms them.

Prize pool status

The official overview does not publish a Champions 2026 prize pool yet

The current Champions Shanghai tournament page explains qualification and format but does not list a total prize pool or placement distribution. Previous Champions figures are not evidence for 2026. This guide will add the number only when Riot publishes it for the Shanghai event.

Correction to older versions: do not treat 2.25 million US dollars as confirmed for Champions 2026 without an official Shanghai source.
Update plan

Follow the event without letting an outdated article mislead you

The page needs three clear refreshes as the season develops. Each update should use the official event page first and keep the visible text synchronized with the FAQ schema.

Add qualified teams

Add the group draw

Publish the four GSL groups only after Riot reveals them.
