Stage 2 is not only about a regional trophy. It is also the last major opportunity to secure a Champions Shanghai route. Riot’s official Americas guide lists four qualification paths for that region: Stage 2 champion, Stage 2 runner-up, first place in Championship Points and second place in Championship Points. Formats and key dates by region

EMEA: The stage begins July 15. Twelve teams are split into two groups of six and play single-round-robin best-of-three matches. The top four move directly into playoffs, while the remaining teams fight through play-ins. The stage culminates in Barcelona.

Americas: The stage begins July 16. Alpha and Omega groups determine the direct playoff teams, while the rest enter a double-elimination play-in with the top four Challengers teams. The regional finals are scheduled for São Paulo from September 4–6.

Pacific: The official Stage 2 overview uses two groups of six, direct playoff places for the top two from each group, and a play-in route for the remaining international-league teams plus Challengers representation.

China: The official Stage 2 overview covers a June 30–September 6 window with 12 teams, two groups, a seeding/play-in stage and an eight-team playoff route. The live tournament page is the correct place for bracket changes.

How to read VCT Stage 2 standings

Do not mix a series record with Championship Points. A team can be high in a group because of match wins while still needing a strong playoff finish to control its Champions path.

  • Series result: the best-of-three or best-of-five outcome is the primary match result.
  • Group position: this determines direct playoff, play-in or elimination status according to the regional format.
  • Championship Points: these are a separate qualification currency and should be shown in their own column.
  • Tiebreakers: use the official event page instead of guessing from map differential alone.
Common mistake “Top of the group” does not always mean “already qualified for Champions.” Qualification depends on the region, the bracket stage and the current Championship Points table.
