Fortnite Crossplay: Turn Cross-Platform Play On or Off
Crossplay is about who can join your matches, not where your skins live. The off-switch depends on the platform, and on some devices Epic says it is not available at all.
i Platform rules verified against Epic Games’ crossplay support guide.
On PlayStation, go from the Fortnite Lobby to Settings → Account and Privacy → Gameplay Privacy → Allow Cross Platform Play, then choose Yes or No. Epic directs Xbox players to Xbox’s network multiplayer setting. Epic says crossplay cannot currently be disabled on Nintendo Switch, PC or mobile, and that crossplay significantly lowers queue times.
Crossplay is not cross-progression
These two terms get mixed up constantly. Crossplay governs multiplayer matchmaking across platforms. Cross-progression and linked accounts concern which Epic account stores your items and progress.
If the actual problem is missing skins, an empty level-one profile or a console linked to the wrong Epic account, do not try to solve it through crossplay. That is an account-linking question, not a matchmaking setting.
How to turn Fortnite crossplay on or off on PlayStation
Epic provides an in-game PlayStation route. Start from the Lobby and change only the Gameplay Privacy option that names cross-platform play.
Open the Fortnite menu
From the Fortnite Lobby, press Start to open the menu and scroll down to the gear icon.
Open Settings
Select Settings.
Choose Account and Privacy
In Settings, open the Account and Privacy tab.
Find Gameplay Privacy
Scroll to Gameplay Privacy and locate Allow Cross Platform Play.
Choose Yes or No
Set the option to Yes to turn crossplay on, or No to turn it off.
Can you disable crossplay on every platform?
Not through the same Fortnite setting. Epic separates the available paths by platform, so choose the row that matches the device you are actually using.
| Platform | What Epic’s current support guidance says | Where to act |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation | In-game option available. Fortnite includes Allow Cross Platform Play under Gameplay Privacy. | Lobby → Settings → Account and Privacy → Gameplay Privacy. |
| Xbox | Platform-level path. Epic directs players to Xbox’s multiplayer cross-network setting. | Use the Xbox privacy/network guidance linked by Epic rather than hunting for a Fortnite-only toggle. |
| Nintendo Switch | No off-switch listed. Epic says crossplay cannot currently be disabled. | Do not expect a Fortnite disable setting. |
| PC and mobile | No off-switch listed. Epic says crossplay cannot currently be disabled. | Do not expect a Fortnite disable setting. |
Epic says crossplay functionality significantly lowers queue times. If you change the option, check your own mode availability and wait time afterward instead of assuming every playlist will behave exactly the same.
Playing with friends across platforms
Enabling crossplay is not the same as adding a friend. Epic’s cross-platform squad guidance says the Epic Games account you plan to use must be registered. Add the people you want to play with through the Epic/Fortnite friend system, enter the game Lobby on your preferred platform, then start a Duo or Squad match.
Crossplay troubleshooting
| What happened | Likely explanation | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| I cannot find Allow Cross Platform Play | You may not be on PlayStation, or you may be outside Account and Privacy → Gameplay Privacy. | Confirm your platform first, then follow that platform’s official path. |
| I play on Xbox | Epic directs the cross-network multiplayer control to Xbox’s settings. | Use the Xbox privacy/network support route linked by Epic. |
| I play on Switch, PC or mobile | Epic says crossplay cannot currently be disabled on those platforms. | Do not keep searching for a missing Fortnite off-switch. |
| My skins or progress look wrong | Crossplay does not control which Epic account owns or displays your data. | Check linked accounts and sign-in identity rather than changing crossplay. |
