Quick answer

Check the in-game message, Epic email and Sanctions and Appeals portal; appeal only from the correct sanctioned account.

Go to Epic's Safety Center, open Sanctions and Appeals, sign in to the affected Epic account and select the sanction or search its Sanction ID. If the case is eligible and you believe it is incorrect, submit the portal appeal. Player Support cannot appeal it for you.

Verification

Confirm a sanction through Epic before treating every launch problem as a ban.

A crash, maintenance window or launcher error is not proof of enforcement. Epic provides three direct indicators: the Fortnite sign-in message, the account email and the signed-in sanction record in the Safety Center.

In FortniteRead the exact message

A sanctioned account can display a message such as “You have been banned from Fortnite.” The launcher may also show Fortnite as unavailable.

In the account emailFind type, duration and rule

Epic says the notification email explains the ban type, its duration and the Community Rule that was violated.

In the Safety CenterOpen the official record

Sign in to Sanctions and Appeals to see active sanctions, status and duration or search with the Sanction ID.

Correct account first: if you own or use more than one Epic login, verify which account received the message. A clean portal on the wrong account does not disprove a sanction elsewhere.
Sanction record

The Sanction ID connects the notice to the portal case.

Epic includes a Sanction ID in the notification email. For a communication restriction, Epic says the details can also be shown in Fortnite on the next sign-in when the email was not received. Keep the complete notice private and use the identifier only in the official portal or legitimate Epic support conversation.

Sanction ID

A case identifier used to locate the specific enforcement action. Enter it exactly if you search the portal manually.

Sanction type

Read what is restricted: matchmaking, social communication or another product feature. The remedy and effect depend on the record.

Status and duration

The portal shows whether the sanction is active and its duration. Do not rely on a screenshot from another user or an old email subject.

Cited rule

The email identifies the Community Rule connected to the action. Review that exact issue before deciding whether an appeal is appropriate.

If there is no email: check spam and the email address attached to the correct Epic account, then use the signed-in portal. Do not pay anyone to “retrieve” a Sanction ID.
Official appeal route

Use the portal action shown for that exact case.

Not every violation is eligible for appeal. When an appeal option is present and you believe the action is incorrect, use the case flow Epic exposes after sign-in.

Open Epic Safety Center

Navigate directly to safety.epicgames.com and select Sanctions and Appeals.

Open your cases

Select Go to my Sanctions & Appeals, then sign in to the Epic account that received the restriction.

Locate the sanction

Open the listed action or search using the Sanction ID from Epic's notification email.

Review the details

Confirm the type, duration, rule and account before responding. Do not submit against a different case.

Check eligibility

The portal determines whether an appeal is available. Epic notes that not all violations can be appealed.

Submit through the case

If eligible and you believe the decision is wrong, follow the on-screen appeal steps and retain the resulting status.

One official channel: Epic Player Support cannot review or appeal a ban on your behalf. The Sanctions and Appeals portal is the review route for eligible cases.
Case preparation

Make the appeal factual, specific and tied to the listed action.

Epic's portal controls the form and available fields. Before submitting, organize the facts you can verify so the response addresses the actual sanction instead of making broad claims about unrelated account history.

Verify the sanctioned account

Use the Epic Account ID or the portal profile to make sure the case belongs to the login you intend to discuss.

Reference the exact action

Use the Sanction ID, type and cited rule. Avoid combining several unrelated notices into one explanation.

Build a clear timeline

Record when the notice appeared, what session or account event preceded it and which details you can support.

Keep relevant evidence

Retain the original Epic email and any relevant records. Do not alter screenshots or invent details the portal can independently verify.

No guaranteed wording exists: a template cannot force an appeal outcome. Accuracy and relevance matter more than emotional language, repeated submissions or promises from a third party.
Sanction effects

“Banned” can describe different restrictions and durations.

Epic distinguishes temporary and permanent player bans as well as product-specific restrictions. Read the live case instead of assuming that a social restriction and a matchmaking ban have the same effect.

Epic categoryPublished effectWhat to verify
Matchmaking BanThe player can log in and use text or voice chat but cannot enter Epic- or creator-made Fortnite experiences, including UEFN playtesting.Portal status, duration and the cited violation.
Social BanVoice and text chat access is temporarily or permanently removed depending on severity.Whether the restriction is communication-only and whether appeal is available.
Temporary BanEpic states temporary player bans can last up to 365 days. The specific end or duration shown in the sanction record.
Permanent BanEpic describes permanent Fortnite bans as indefinite. The exact account, decision and any portal review option.
Other Epic games: Epic says a Fortnite player ban does not automatically prevent playing other games from the Epic Games Store. Always read the product scope in the specific notice.
After submission

Track the portal status instead of submitting duplicate claims elsewhere.

Epic's ban-status instructions direct players back to Sanctions and Appeals when no follow-up email arrives. The signed-in record remains the source for the sanction status and duration.

Pending Review

Keep the case identifier and monitor the portal. Epic says Support can be contacted for more details when an appeal remains Pending Review.

No follow-up email

Check the account inbox and spam folder, then revisit the portal rather than assuming silence means the sanction disappeared.

Portal looks empty

Sign out and verify the Epic account. A different login is the first thing to rule out before treating the record as missing.

Decision remains active

Follow the result and duration shown by Epic. The existence of an appeal process does not guarantee that a sanction will be lifted.

Security and scope

No third party can promise an Epic unban.

A person requesting your password, 2FA code, email code or payment to “remove” the sanction is not following Epic's published process. Use only the signed-in portal and the official account contact routes.

Do not share login codes

A Sanction ID locates a case; it does not justify giving anyone your password, authentication code or recovery credentials.

Navigate directly

Type or open the official Epic Safety Center yourself. Avoid unsolicited links that imitate a sanction review page.

Do not evade a permanent action

Epic's Terms prohibit evading a permanent ban by creating another Epic account. Use the allowed review process instead.

Keep search intents separate

This guide explains a current sanction. It does not replace the policy-risk article or the separate player-report workflow.
