Two new universal mechanics change every fight
All weapons are now hitscan — no bullet travel time at normal ranges. And the new saved reload progress system means if you swap weapons mid-reload, the progress carries over when you switch back. Both changes reward faster, more decisive weapon swapping.
Fortnite Rivalries System — How It Works in Showdown
The core new mechanic of Season 2 — and the reason mid-game plays out completely differently than before.
When you log into Chapter 7 Season 2 for the first time, you’ll be asked to pick a faction: Team Foundation or Team Ice King. This choice is cosmetic at its core — it affects which bonus skin style you unlock at season end — but the Rivalries system it feeds into is where the real gameplay impact lives.
Each match, approach a Rivalry Board (look for crossed swords icons on the mini-map) to mark an opposing player as your Rival. That player sees a red target marker showing your rough location — and vice versa. Eliminate your Rival to earn Rivalry Credits, which you spend at Rivalry Gear machines for Legendary weapons, Exotic items, and perks.
Winning vs. Completing a Rivalry
There’s a difference: you win a Rivalry by eliminating your Rival yourself. You complete one by picking up the contract they drop if someone else eliminates them. Both count for weekly quests (complete 3 / win 1 for 2K XP each), but only wins push your faction leaderboard forward.
Rivalry Credits can buy Legendary Chaos Reloader Shotguns, Legendary Vector 7 DMRs, and Legendary Combat ARs for 50 Credits each — or healing items like Chug Splash and Flowberry Mist for 10 Credits. As both factions hit global milestones, new items like the Seven Power Gloves and exotic weapon variants unlock for everyone. You can also participate in the global Showdown leaderboard at showdown.fortnite.com for real prizes including GPUs and consoles. Want to play Season 2 with an already-stacked locker? Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 — New POIs & Best Drop Spots
Four named locations replaced this season. Here’s what each one offers and how hot they run.
🏰
Frigid Fortress
Ice King’s castle in the north. Replaces Clawsy Lodge. The most loot-dense new POI — and the highest-traffic one. Boss encounter here.
High Risk
🌑
Dark Dominion
Replaces Lethal Labs, sits in the center of the map. Dark Voyager Echo spawns here. Expect early fights — central location draws traffic.
High Risk
🐙
Squibbly Shores
Replaces Bumpy Bay on the west coast. Four NPCs cluster here — fishing rods, heals, ammo restocks. Squibbly boss nearby.
Medium Risk
🔱
New Sanctuary
Foundation’s stronghold in the southeast. Three NPCs in one POI — hired guns, Covert Specialist, ammo. Mid-map rotation is easy from here.
Low Risk
Landing tip: match your drop to your goal
If you’re hunting a Mythic weapon, commit to Frigid Fortress or Dark Dominion early — be prepared to fight for it. If you need Rivalry Credits fast, Squibbly Shores and New Sanctuary let you gear up safely and then push for Rivals mid-game. Quieter drops like Sub Studios, Humble Hills, and Sandy Strip work well when you want a clean loot phase before rotating into contested zones.
Weapon Tier List — Chapter 7 Season 2
17 weapons in the pool. Ranked on damage output, consistency across skill levels, how easy they are to obtain, and competitive viability.
SSMythic boss drops — above the standard loot pool entirely
🟡
Dark Voyager’s Obliterator
Mythic Chaos Reloader with two shells instead of one. From Dark Voyager Echo in Dark Dominion.
🟡
Ice King’s Gauntlets
Primary fire: 50-damage projectile with splash. Right-click creates an icy storm that continuously damages anyone inside. From Ice King in Frigid Fortress.
🟡
Squibbly’s Combat AR (Mythic)
Mythic Combat AR — fire rate increases as you hold the trigger. From Squibbly at Squibbly Shores.
SFight for these every match — reliable at any rarity
🔵
Chaos Reloader Shotgun
Best non-Mythic weapon in the pool. 150 body damage in blue rarity. Auto-reloads while holstered. Dominates close range.
🔵
Combat Assault Rifle
~185 DPS in blue rarity. Near-zero bloom and recoil at Epic/Legendary. Devastating in box fights and mid-range. Saved-reload mechanic makes it even stronger.
🔵
Nemesis AR
Returns from Chapter 5. Low recoil, steady fire, effective from hip and ADS. Pro players prefer it for precision tagging over the Combat AR at long range.
🔵
Thunder Burst SMG
Received a hitscan upgrade this season — now threatens opponents at ranges where SMGs usually fall off. High pressure, high fire rate.
AStrong at Epic/Legendary — reliable meta picks in the right situation
🔷
Vector 7 DMR
Only scoped weapon in the pool at season start. 5-shot mag using sniper ammo. Two headshots = elimination. Hitscan under 100m, bullet drop beyond that. Fills a role nothing else covers.
🔷
Iron Pump Shotgun
Returned from Season 1. Mythic version hits 210 head / 116 body — best shotgun headshot in the pool. Standard rarity still solid for early-game fights.
🔷
Twin Hammer Shotguns
Highest fire rate of all shotguns. Second-highest DPS behind the Chaos Reloader. More forgiving if you miss — good for aggressive spam-and-reset playstyles.
BSituational — effective in specific scenarios, not carry-level
⬜
Bouncing Boomstick
Stick of dynamite that explodes on each bounce, dealing 40 damage in a generous radius. Strong for build-fighting and flushing cover — less useful in Zero Build endgames.

🔫
Chaos Reloader Shotgun
Shotgun · Close Range · Season 2 New
Best in SlotS Tier
150 body dmg (Blue)173 body dmg (Mythic)Auto-reloads holstered1 shell per reload
The Chaos Reloader is the defining weapon of Season 2. One shell per reload sounds limiting until you realize it auto-reloads while holstered — meaning you fire, immediately swap to your AR or SMG, deal follow-up damage, and come back to a loaded shotgun. The 150 blue-rarity body shot alone threatens any opponent. It’s been compared to the Jawa Blaster from Chapter 6 Season 2, which many considered the best shotgun Fortnite had ever seen. The headshot multiplier is low (20%), which is the deliberate trade-off — body shots are the play.
Take a tight right-hand peek, land the Reloader shot, immediately swap to your SMG or pistol to finish — let the shotgun reload in the background
Aim for consistent body shots rather than risky headshot swings — with 150 damage per hit, you don’t need headshots to delete shields
The saved-reload mechanic stacks with the holstered auto-reload — your shotgun is almost always ready to fire when you swap back to it

Combat Assault Rifle
Assault Rifle · Mid Range · Returning
S TierBox Fighter
~185 DPS (Blue)Near-zero bloom Epic+Fast fire rate
The Combat AR was buffed into a laser for Chapter 7 Season 2. At medium range with an Epic or Legendary version, it produces almost no bloom or recoil — making it feel closer to a precision rifle than a traditional AR inside box fights. The ~185 DPS in blue rarity sits roughly 40 above most ARs from Season 1. If you’ve played Fortnite Reload recently, the muscle memory transfers immediately. Pro players lean slightly toward the Nemesis AR for long-range tag shots, but the Combat AR owns the mid-range fight.
The saved-reload mechanic matters most with this gun — start a reload, swap to your shotgun to close distance, come back to a loaded AR
Prioritize getting this to Epic or higher — the bloom reduction at those rarities is dramatic
🎯
Vector 7 DMR
DMR · Long Range · Season 2 New
A TierOnly Scoped
5-shot magazineSniper ammoHitscan under 100m2 headshots = kill
The only scoped weapon in the pool at season start — which makes it irreplaceable on any loadout that wants long-range pressure. Under 100m it’s fully hitscan: point, click, hit. Beyond that, bullet drop and travel time activate, bridging the gap between AR and sniper. Two headshots secure an elimination at any rarity. Body-shot-only takes more patience (potentially all five rounds). If your aim is there, this is one of the highest-skill-rewarding guns in the meta.
Search “resub” in Fortnite’s island code finder for Training Hub V2 — it has a bullet drop tracker specifically for this DMR
At standard engagement distances (under 100m), aim directly — the drop only kicks in past that point

Zero Build note: run one or two mobility slots
Without building for cover, mobility defines your survival. Most competitive Zero Build players this season run at least one movement item — usually Overdrive Grenades or Seven Power Gloves. The Skyline Deployer is useful for storm rotations and height plays but makes you easy to hit on the zipline. Prioritize Overdrive Grenades if you can only carry one movement item.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 Boss Locations & Mythic Drops
Three bosses roam the island. Each drops a Mythic weapon, 1,000 gold bars, and a shield potion. Here’s where to find them and how to take them down.
🌑
Dark Voyager Echo
Dark Dominion · Battlewood Boulevard (south)
Mythic Drop: Dark Voyager’s Obliterator — two-shot Chaos Reloader variant
Summons laser-pulse drones during the fight. Bring an AR for headshots to break his shield quickly, then close with a shotgun. He’s aggressive on sight — don’t try to sneak him.
Accompanied by Lady Windfrost — focus all fire on the Ice King. She falls when he does, so don’t waste ammo on her. Keep moving, take high ground, and watch for the area-of-effect ice attacks.
🐙
Squibbly
Squibbly Shores · Lighthouse · Central Coral
Mythic Drop: Squibbly’s Combat AR — fire rate increases as you hold trigger
Patrols the coral formations near the lighthouse. Compared to the other bosses, Squibbly is more predictable in movement. Have a shotgun ready for the final phase.
Boss unlock status — Mythics roll out over the season
At launch, only Dark Voyager Echo was dropping his Mythic weapon. The Ice King and Foundation Mythics have since unlocked as both factions hit leaderboard milestones. All three are currently obtainable as of early April 2026.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 Movement Items & Mechanics
Shockwave Grenades are gone. Three new items take their place — and they play very differently.
💨
Overdrive Grenades
Throwable · Movement + Combat Buff · New this Season
Best Movement
The top mobility item of the season. Functions like a Shockwave with a slightly shorter launch distance — but also grants a temporary boost to movement speed, reload speed, and fire rate to anyone it hits. Crucially, it does not break builds, making it ideal for competitive endgames. Throw one before pushing a corner: you’ll be moving faster and reloading faster mid-fight. Fall damage is active, so have a plan for your landing. Carry at least two at all times.
Throw before a push, not during — the speed and reload buff kicks in while you’re approaching the fight, giving you a full edge when you arrive
You can hit teammates — in squads, throw one at your whole team before a late-game push
🪝
Skyline Deployer
Deployable · Zipline Launcher · New this Season
Storm Rotations
Fires out a zipline you automatically ride to the landing point. Any player can use or destroy it — which is the main drawback. Chain multiple Deployers to cover large distances fast or reach height quickly. Glider can be redeployed when you jump off the line. It’s the best available movement item for covering open ground during storm rotations, but note: you’re very exposed while riding. Use it before combat, not during. Blue rarity — easy to find from standard chests.
Best used before a fight, not as a panic escape mid-gunfight — you’re a sitting target on the line
Stack multiple to chain up buildings for quick height advantage in build modes
7 Tips to Win More in Chapter 7 Season 2
What separates consistent winners from people who win one game and then go on a five-game elimination streak.
01
Swap weapons after every Chaos Reloader shot
The auto-reload only works while the gun is holstered. Fire your shot, immediately switch to your AR or SMG to keep dealing damage, then switch back to a fully loaded shotgun. This rhythm — shoot, swap, deal damage, swap back — is the core loop of Season 2 combat.
02
Use Rivalries as a mid-game activity finder
Instead of hunting shots randomly, the Rivalry system gives you a built-in reason to push specific players. Chain multiple Rivalries in one match to earn Legendary weapons from the Gear machines without having to fight for boss drops.
03
Never start a reload if you’re about to swap anyway
The saved-reload mechanic means your reload progress persists when you switch weapons. In a multi-weapon fight, let your guns all partially reload passively. Return to them later — they’ll resume from wherever they left off.
04
Always carry a movement item in the endgame
Without either Overdrive Grenades or a Skyline Deployer, late-game rotations become extremely punishing. Players with movement items will reach better zones, take high ground, and push you at will. A five-slot loadout without mobility is a liability past the fourth zone.
05
Fight for Legendary rarity before the first zone
The Combat AR is borderline broken at Legendary. The difference between blue and Legendary bloom reduction is dramatic enough that it changes whether the AR functions like an AR or like a laser pointer. Upgrade it or hunt chests for rarity upgrades within the first two minutes.
06
Eat the Vendetta Flopper when you’re unsure of rotations
A new fish this season marks the nearest opponent on your screen when consumed. In late-game situations where you don’t know where surviving players are, this information is often more valuable than a heal item. Fish it from any water source.
07
Check New Sanctuary for a full NPC service stop
The Foundation, Rival Hope, and The Order all cluster in New Sanctuary — giving you hired gun backup, a Covert Specialist, and ammo restocks without leaving one POI. If you need a fast mid-game service run, this is the most efficient stop on the current map. Playing on both PS and Xbox? Our cross-progression guide covers how to keep your progress and skins across both.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 — Frequently Asked Questions
The Chaos Reloader Shotgun is the best non-Mythic weapon in the pool — 150 body shot damage in blue rarity, and it auto-reloads while holstered. The Mythic Dark Voyager’s Obliterator (a two-shot variant) sits above it but requires defeating the Dark Voyager Echo boss in Dark Dominion. If you can’t secure a Mythic, the Chaos Reloader is your number one priority every match.
Find a Rivalry Board (crossed swords icon on mini-map) in any match to mark another player as your Rival. Both players see each other’s rough location. Eliminate your Rival to earn Rivalry Credits, which you spend at Rivalry Gear machines for Legendary weapons and exotic items. Wins also push your faction (Foundation or Ice King) on a global leaderboard — with real prizes available through the Showdown website.
There’s no gameplay power difference between the two factions — both earn the same weapons and items through the Rivalry system. The only difference is cosmetic: the winning team at season end determines which bonus Battle Pass style (Frost-Ready Foundation or Exalted Frost Ice King) unlocks for all pass holders. Pick whichever character design you prefer.
Three bosses this season. Dark Voyager Echo most commonly spawns in Dark Dominion or south of Battlewood Boulevard. The Ice King is found in Frigid Fortress. Squibbly patrols the coral near Squibbly Shores and the lighthouse. Bosses spawn in their home POI frequently but not always — each drops a Mythic weapon, 1,000 gold, and a shield potion on defeat.
Based on dataminer ShiinaBR, Chapter 7 Season 2 (Showdown) is expected to end on Friday, June 5, 2026. That makes it roughly a two-month season — significantly shorter than Season 1, which ran for nearly 3.5 months.
The strongest Zero Build loadout in Chapter 7 Season 2 is: Chaos Reloader Shotgun (close range), Combat AR or Nemesis AR (mid range), Vector 7 DMR (long range), Overdrive Grenades (mobility + combat buff), and Slapperoni Pizza (heals). Running a movement item is essential in Zero Build — without one, endgame rotations are nearly impossible to win. Overdrive Grenades outperform the Skyline Deployer in most Zero Build scenarios because they boost your speed and reload rate simultaneously.
The Skyline Deployer is a Blue (Rare) rarity item that spawns in standard floor loot and chests — you don’t need to fight a boss or reach a specific POI. Drop somewhere quiet, open chests until one appears, and save it for the Week 1 quest (use it 3 times for 20,000 XP). It has multiple charges, so you won’t burn through it in one use. The fastest method: drop Humble Hills or Sandy Strip, loot chests along the edge, and activate it three times before rotating into the main fight.
Yes — Chapter 7 Season 2 is widely considered one of the better recent seasons. The near-full loot pool reset (only two weapons survived the vault) gave the meta a genuine refresh after Season 1 overstayed its welcome. The Rivalries system adds meaningful mid-game structure that casual and competitive players both benefit from. The only notable downside is the pace of collab releases creating some fatigue, and the removal of Shockwave Grenades took some adjustment. Overall, if you’re returning after a break, this is a good season to come back to.
Bottom Line
Chapter 7 Season 2 is one of the most aggressive meta resets Fortnite has seen. Your Season 1 loadout is mostly irrelevant — adapt fast or fall behind. The Chaos Reloader Shotgun is the anchor of every winning loadout. Pair it with the Combat AR or Nemesis AR at mid range, add Overdrive Grenades for mobility, and use the Rivalries system as your mid-game roadmap rather than wandering aimlessly.
