How to Change Your Fortnite Name: Without Changing the Wrong One
Your Epic display name, PSN Online ID and Xbox Gamertag are not automatically the same. Change the name tied to the platform where you actually want it to appear, and do not waste the two-week Epic cooldown.

To change the Epic name used on PC, mobile and other Epic services, sign in to Epic Account settings, edit Display Name, then select Continue. Your email must be verified first, and Epic lets you change it only once every two weeks. A PSN Online ID or Xbox Gamertag is separate and must be changed through that platform.
First: identify the name you need to change
Many failed “Fortnite name changes” are not failures at all, the wrong identity was changed. Epic and console platforms keep their own display names.

Epic says a console account’s display name can differ from the Epic display name. Change the platform name only when the console name, not the Epic name, is the one you want to replace.
Change your Epic Games display name
These are the official account-setting steps. Complete the email verification first; do not try random name-change sites or give your login to a third party.
Open Epic Account settings
Sign in to the Epic Games Account settings page with the Epic account that owns your Fortnite locker.
Verify your email if prompted
Epic requires a verified email address before a display name can be changed. Finish verification before returning to the Display Name field.
Enter the new Display Name
Find the Display Name field, enter the name you want, and check it against the format and content rules below.
Confirm once, then wait
Select Continue to apply it. If the field has a lock icon, hover its information icon to see when the two-week cooldown ends; do not repeatedly attempt changes.
Fortnite name rules: what Epic will accept
A clever name is not worth a forced reset. Epic’s display-name rules focus on length, player safety and avoiding misleading impersonation.
Epic may reject a name that violates its rules. It also says a name that later violates the guidelines may be automatically reset to a random one. Treat the name preview as a final check: readable, neutral and not personally identifying.
If you only ever played Fortnite on console
If you began only through PSN, Xbox or Switch, the Epic account behind your console may not yet be fully set up. Epic’s guidance is to sign in on the Epic Games website using the platform account you play on. You may then see a Finish Setting Up Your Account prompt.
Complete the requested account details and select Continue. Once the Epic account is complete and its email is verified, you can set or change an Epic display name. This does not merge accounts, move cosmetics or alter a separate PSN/Xbox console name.
Before editing anything, confirm you signed in to the Epic account that actually has your Fortnite progress. Use the platform sign-in option if that is how you normally access the account; never create a fresh account just to change a name.

A Cabined Account can have different features until its setup receives the required parental help. If that applies, complete the appropriate Epic account process instead of trying to bypass the restriction.
What a name change does not change
Changing a display name is an identity-label change, not an account migration. Your Fortnite progress, purchases and content stay stored on the linked Epic Games account. Epic explicitly says changing a console display name does not remove that Fortnite data.
Do not use a name-change task as a reason to unlink consoles, create a second Epic account or search for an account-merge workaround. Those actions concern account ownership and platform connections, not your display name.

How often can I change my Fortnite name?
Epic says you can change your Epic Games display name once every two weeks. A lock icon beside the setting usually means the cooldown is still active.
Why did my Fortnite name not change on PS5 or Xbox?
Changing an Epic display name does not change a PSN Online ID or Xbox Gamertag. Epic says those platform names remain separate, so update the relevant platform name if that is what you see in the console lobby.
Do I lose my skins if I change my Fortnite name?
No. Epic says Fortnite progress, purchases and content are saved to the linked Epic Games account. A display-name or console-name change does not remove that data.
