Quick answer

The short version

Valorant ranked is a bell curve. Most players sit between Silver and Gold, and the numbers drop off fast after Platinum. Gold is the most common rank, the average player sits around Gold 1, and Radiant is only about 0.03 percent of everyone.

In one line

If you are Gold, you are a perfectly average Valorant player. Everything from Platinum up already puts you in the top third.

Your spot

Where you actually stand

The honest takeaway: the ranks feel harsher than they are. Because the curve is bottom-heavy, climbing one tier moves you past a big chunk of the player base early, then it gets much steeper.

Reaching Gold

Puts you above roughly half of all players. That is genuinely average, not bad.

Reaching Platinum

Lands you in about the top third. This is where the drop-off begins.

Reaching Diamond

Top 10 to 18 percent. From here every tier is a real grind.

Ascendant and up

A small, sweaty slice of the ladder where games get noticeably harder.

Average

The average and most common rank

The most common rank is Gold, with around 22.5 percent of players sitting somewhere in that tier. Look at single sub-ranks instead and Bronze 2 is the single most populated rung at roughly 9.5 percent.

The median, the true middle of the ladder, sits around Gold 1. So if you are Gold, you are not stuck, you are simply where most of the player base lives.

Bell curve

What the bell curve actually means

Bronze, Silver and Gold together make up well over 60 percent of all players. That is the fat middle of the curve. After Platinum the population thins out quickly, and by Immortal you are looking at a tiny fraction of the ladder.

This matters for your expectations. Hard-stuck in Gold does not mean you are bad, it means you are fighting the most crowded part of the ladder. Small, consistent improvements move you through it faster than chasing highlight plays.

The top

Immortal and Radiant, the real top of the ladder

Only around 0.9 percent of players reach Immortal or above. Radiant, the highest rank, is roughly 0.03 percent and is capped to a set number of top players per region, tracked on the leaderboard.

So when someone says they are Immortal, they really are in the top one percent. Radiant is another world entirely, a few hundred players per region at most.

Climbing

How to move up the distribution

Climbing is less about perfect aim and more about being a bit cleaner than the average of your current rank. Crosshair placement, one or two main agents, good economy and a calm head do most of the work. We break the full method down in our climb guide.

Keep in mind the act reset too: at every act rollover your rank soft-resets and you replay 5 placement matches, so your spot in the distribution shifts a little each season.

Account check

Skip the crowded middle

The most crowded, grindy part of the ladder is exactly that fat Silver-to-Gold middle. If you would rather start your ranked games higher up instead of climbing through it again, a well placed account is one way to do it.

If you go that route, look at the hidden MMR, region, full access and rank, not just the visible badge, so you land where you actually want to play.
