R6 Ranked 3.0 Guide 2026: Placements, RP and Rewards
Understand the five placement matches, visible RP matchmaking, squad limits and reward track before your next Ranked queue.
Ranked 3.0 makes your visible rank the skill signal.
Hidden MMR is gone. Each season starts with five placement matches, then wins and losses change visible Rank Points. Matchmaking considers rank, squad size, queue time and location. Squadmates can be within three full ranks through Emerald, or two full ranks in Diamond and Champion.
How R6 Ranked 3.0 works
Ranked 2.0 separated visible rank from a hidden skill value. Ranked 3.0 removes that split. Ubisoft describes the new principle in one sentence: your skill is your rank. The RP shown after the match is now the progression players can actually follow.
That does not mean the matchmaker ignores every other condition. Ubisoft also uses squad size, time and location to create a balanced lobby without making queue times unreasonable. Team balance starts at squad level, so a party with a large internal rank gap can be weighted closer to its stronger member.
Calibrate the new seasonal starting rank with previous performance still in the picture.
Match results and team rank balance determine the points gained or lost.
Every completed Ranked match also moves a separate seasonal reward path.
Five placement matches set your starting rank
At the start of each season, all players complete five placement matches before receiving a visible rank. These matches use increased RP movement to bring returning players toward their previous level faster. Ubisoft also says previous-season performance has an influence, so the five games are not judged in isolation.
How RP and Ranked 3.0 matchmaking work
After placements, every match adds or removes Rank Points. The result matters first, while the relative rank balance between both teams adjusts the size of the change. Beating a stronger team can award more RP. Beating a lower-ranked team can award less, and losing to that lower-ranked team can cost more.
Each division uses 100 RP. Reach the next threshold to rank up.
The Demotion Shield remains active. If a loss would demote you and you started the match above zero RP, the shield can leave you at zero. A further loss while already at zero can trigger the demotion.
Ranked 3.0 squad restrictions
Rank now controls the maximum gap inside a normal Ranked squad. The limit is measured in full ranks, not individual divisions. Gold I and Platinum V are adjacent divisions, while Gold and Diamond are two full rank bands apart.
Use the lowest and highest member to check whether the whole party fits the allowed span.
Elite queues use the tighter limit to reduce extreme skill gaps.
Ubisoft allows players to complete placements with friends regardless of rank.
The Competitive Rewards track pays for participation
The reward track is separate from RP. A Ranked win counts for two reward points and a loss counts for one, so every completed match moves the track. A new step unlocks every ten points up to the seasonal headgear at 150.
Rank-based cosmetics use the highest rank reached during the season. A later derank does not erase the highest-rank reward already earned.
Champion now has five divisions
Champion follows the same five-division structure as the rest of the ladder. Players move from Champion V toward Champion I, where the featured leaderboard begins. This creates visible separation before the future Legend layer arrives.
What Ubisoft is already adjusting
Ranked 3.0 launched as a new foundation, not a frozen formula. The June Community Checkpoint addressed the first wave of player feedback and separated current fixes from future work.
Future seasons are planned to give placement matches more influence over the starting rank.
Ubisoft introduced a floor to prevent progression from feeling completely stalled.
Live adjustments aim to make gains and losses feel more consistent inside the same match.
Placement changes should reduce unwanted clustering and create clearer separation between ranks.
R6 Ranked 3.0 FAQ
How does R6 Ranked 3.0 work?
Ranked 3.0 removes hidden MMR and uses visible Rank Points as the main skill and matchmaking signal. Each season begins with five placement matches, followed by normal RP progression, squad restrictions and a separate Competitive Rewards track.
How many placement matches are in R6 Ranked 3.0?
Players complete five placement matches at the start of each season. Previous-season performance still influences calibration, and Ubisoft says placements use increased RP gains to move players toward an appropriate starting rank.
Does KDA affect rank in R6 Ranked 3.0?
No. Ubisoft stated in its June 2026 Community Checkpoint that KDA is not a factor in rank progression. The system rewards winning as a team so support, intel, utility and flank watch remain valuable.
What are the R6 Ranked 3.0 squad restrictions?
Copper through Emerald players can queue with teammates within three full ranks. Diamond and Champion players are limited to teammates within two full ranks. Placement matches do not use these squad restrictions.
How do R6 Ranked 3.0 rewards work?
Every Ranked match advances the Competitive Rewards track. A win gives two points and a loss gives one. Every ten points unlocks a reward step, with the final 150-point step awarding the seasonal headgear.
Does the Demotion Shield still exist in Ranked 3.0?
Yes. Ubisoft’s Ranked 3.0 update says the Demotion Shield remains active. If a loss would derank a player who started above zero RP, the system can leave that player at zero RP. Losing again from zero can cause the demotion.
How many Champion divisions are in R6 Ranked 3.0?
Champion now has five divisions, Champion V through Champion I. The featured Champion leaderboard begins at Champion I while Ubisoft prepares the separate Legend Division.
Is R6 Ranked 3.0 still being adjusted?
Yes. Ubisoft has already adjusted minimum RP gains and RP fairness, and it plans to make placement matches more influential in future seasons after feedback about starting ranks and rank distribution.
