Fortnite Voice Chat: Party Channel, Game Channel & Fixes
Fortnite voice chat works best once you choose the correct channel. Party Channel follows your party; Game Channel follows the team in the same island instance when that island supports it.

Open your Profile icon and choose a channel: Party Chat talks to players in your party across Fortnite experiences, while Game Chat talks to players in the same island instance when supported. Use the voice controls to mute, unmute or deafen; for who may communicate, go to Settings → Communication.
Party Channel vs. Game Channel
The two channels serve different groups. Select the one matching the people you need to hear; this is the first check when teammates seem silent.

How to manage Voice Chat in Fortnite
Start with the social menu for active-channel controls. Use the settings pages when you need to change the audience or audio options rather than just mute one player.
Open your Profile icon
Select your Profile icon in Fortnite to access the current voice-chat area.
Choose Party Chat or Game Chat
Select the channel that matches your party or your current game team.
Use the voice controls
Mute, unmute or deafen when you need a quick individual or personal audio control.
Open the three-dot menu for more options
Epic says this menu can report voice chat, open text chat, adjust voice method or change communication settings.
Choose who can communicate with you
For wider voice and text permissions, select your Profile icon, open Settings, then select Communication. Epic lists four audience choices:
Epic says chat settings default to Off for players who indicate they are under 18, subject to parental controls. The available level can be restricted further for younger players.
Voice Chat not working: first checks
Do the simple Fortnite checks before changing network hardware or reinstalling anything. Epic’s troubleshooting puts channel selection, volume, platform party chat, parental controls and service status in the first group of checks.

Invite Only controls who can enter a party. It does not itself decide who you can hear or talk to. Voice permissions live in the active channel and Communication settings.
Where the Audio voice settings live
Epic’s current audio-settings route is: select the in-game menu icon, choose Settings, then select the Audio icon. Epic recommends reading each setting’s tooltip before changing it.
If you want to stop your own Fortnite voice chat entirely, Epic’s guidance says to use the Audio page, select Voice Chat, and set it to Nobody. This is a personal communication choice, not a party-access setting.
