Is Yellow Deuteranopia really the best enemy color?
For a player who has never tested the setting, Yellow Deuteranopia is the most useful first candidate. Its high apparent brightness often separates the enemy silhouette from darker models and many blue-grey environments. That can reduce the fraction of a second spent deciding whether a shape is an opponent.
But “often clear” is different from “always best.” VALORANT maps include sand, wood, sunlight, neon effects, purple utility and red warning indicators. Your monitor, saturation, room lighting, eyesight and crosshair color can reverse the result. A player using a bright yellow crosshair may identify red enemies faster simply because the two critical signals no longer overlap.

The setting sits in VALORANT’s accessibility controls rather than Graphics Quality. Current PC documentation places it in Settings → General → Accessibility → Enemy Highlight Color. Match the enemy outline to your crosshair color
The outline helps you find the target; the crosshair helps you place the shot. If both use nearly the same bright color, the crosshair can visually merge into the enemy at head level. Contrast between them is usually more useful than maximizing the brightness of each separately.

Choose an outline that stays visible across real backgrounds
The Range is useful because it controls distance, but its palette cannot represent every live map. After narrowing the choice to two colors, test both against a dark corridor, warm outdoor architecture and ability-heavy fight.
Blue-grey walls, shadowed corridors and dark Agent models make a bright yellow edge easy to acquire.
Yellow can lose contrast near tan stone, sunlight and gold effects; purple is an important comparison.
When smokes, abilities or skin VFX create violet clutter, default red may preserve a cleaner target signal.
Do not optimize for one screenshot
A target can look perfect while standing still in a clean corridor and disappear when strafing behind utility. Test close and long range, partially exposed shoulders, head glitches and moving targets. The winning color should remain identifiable before you consciously name the Agent.
Monitor saturation can exaggerate one palette. If Digital Vibrance, console color settings or a display preset is unusually strong, test at the exact values used in matches. Do not change monitor, enemy outline and crosshair simultaneously or you will not know which adjustment helped.
Deuteranopia, Protanopia and Tritanopia settings
The accessibility labels correspond to different color-vision deficiencies. Purple is labeled Tritanopia. The two yellow choices are labeled Deuteranopia and Protanopia, both within red-green color-vision deficiency categories. They exist to provide distinguishable team information, not to diagnose vision.
