The score rises as you hit notes. Consistent inputs protect your streak and multiplier; missed or incorrect inputs cost immediate points and can reduce the value of the notes that follow. Overdrive adds a temporary scoring opportunity, while the Star Meter summarizes how far the performance progressed toward the song’s star thresholds.
Clean taps, holds, strums or drum inputs create the base for every other scoring system.
A long run without a break keeps the multiplier working instead of repeatedly rebuilding it.

Accuracy and note streaks beat reckless speed
A higher difficulty can offer a denser or more demanding chart, but it only helps if you can execute it. For leaderboard improvement, the best difficulty is the hardest one where you can still preserve long streaks and activate Overdrive without losing control.
If notes consistently feel early or late, run Festival Tune-up. A bad latency offset turns correct reactions into misses and makes practice data unreliable.
Do not only replay the full song. Identify the earliest section that repeatedly breaks your run and focus on its pattern, hand movement or lane transition.
Keep your eyes slightly above the hit zone so upcoming lane changes and holds are visible before the input window arrives.
Extra taps can be as damaging as late notes. Use deliberate inputs and return to the chart rhythm after a mistake instead of mashing to recover.
How Festival score multipliers affect a run
The multiplier rewards consistency. As the streak builds, later notes become more valuable; when the streak breaks, the run loses both the missed points and part of its future scoring pace. That is why one error near a dense section can create a larger final-score gap than one isolated number on the results screen suggests.

When should you activate Overdrive?

A dense passage has high potential only if you can hit it. A slightly easier section played cleanly can be the safer conversion.

Five stars do not mean the score is finished
Epic says the Festival Star Meter can award up to five stars per song. Stars are a fast performance milestone, but the leaderboard records the numerical score. Two players can both reach five stars and still finish thousands of points apart because their accuracy, streak continuity and Overdrive conversion were different.
How to open Fortnite Festival leaderboards
Epic’s current flow starts at the organ in the middle of Backstage. Open the song picker, select the song you want to inspect and press the leaderboard button shown for your input device.
