To play Pearl well in 2026, control mid before committing, respect B Long without turning every round into a main-plant spam fight, and use A Art or Link pressure to split defenders. Pearl rewards simple map control more than gimmicks.

Identity

Why Pearl is a pure map-control test

Riot’s official map page describes Pearl as a two-site map in a vibrant underwater city, with no special mechanics. That matters. There are no teleporters, doors or ziplines to bail out a weak plan. Pearl is about who owns mid, who controls long lanes and who can retake site without walking into predictable post-plants.

The map gives attackers two clear ideas: work through compact mid and Art, or stretch defenders with B Long. Defenders need to deny free mid space, track A Art pressure and make B retakes possible before the spike goes down.

Pearl feels simple until teams ignore the middle. Once mid is lost, A Link, B Link and site rotations become much harder to read. That is why the best Pearl rounds usually start with information, not blind site rushing.

Is Pearl in ranked in 2026?

Patch 11.08 is the important Pearl reference: Riot said Pearl and Split entered Competitive and Deathmatch queues while Lotus and Ascent left. Map pools can change again, so use the live client as the final source before planning ranked practice.

This VALORANT Pearl guide focuses on evergreen Pearl decisions: mid control, B Long pressure, A Art timing, post-plants and retakes. Those concepts remain useful in customs, Unrated, Swiftplay and future map rotations.

Callouts

Pearl callouts to learn first

This page is the Pearl-specific strategy guide. For the broader map language system, use the VALORANT map callouts guide. On Pearl, the most important labels are A Main, A Art, A Link, Mid Plaza, Mid Doors, Mid Connector, B Long, B Hall, B Site and Dugout.

A strong Pearl callout should include the lane and the threat. “Two B Long, spike seen, no mid” is useful. “B maybe” is weak because defenders need to know whether they can retake through link, site or flank.

A sideA Main, Art, Link

A becomes stronger when attackers pressure Art instead of walking into one predictable lane.

MiddlePlaza, Doors, Connector

Mid control decides whether rotations, splits and late lurks are safe.

B sideB Long, Hall, Dugout

B pressure is powerful, but it needs updated post-plant discipline after Riot’s site changes.

Control

Mid and B Long decide Pearl’s tempo

Pearl has two major pressure systems. Mid creates flexible splits and safer rotations. B Long creates direct site pressure and forces defenders to respect long sightlines. Strong teams use both instead of repeating the same B Long plant every round.

Patch 11.08 matters because Riot adjusted B Site to make defending post-plant positions from B Main less overwhelming. Riot removed a deep B Long sightline and adjusted cover around the site to encourage more direct on-site fights. The practical lesson: do not assume old main-only post-plants are always free.

Attack

How to attack Pearl in ranked

Good Pearl attack rounds start by testing mid. Even if the final hit is B Long, mid pressure forces defenders to watch more than one lane. If attackers ignore mid every round, defenders can anchor deeper and save utility for the site hit.

A attacks become cleaner when A Art is active. B attacks become cleaner when B Long pressure is paired with mid, link or late lurk timing. The goal is not to make every round complicated. The goal is to make defenders uncertain enough that the site hit is not walking into five prepared crossfires.

In solo queue, call one simple split: “Take mid doors, end B” or “Pressure Art, hit A.” Pearl does not need a theatrical plan. It needs spacing, smokes and a post-plant that matches the space your team actually owns.

Probe mid firstUse utility or safe contact to learn whether defenders are contesting Plaza or Doors.
Choose the pressure laneUse A Art, B Long or Link pressure to stretch the site hold.
Plant for spaceDo not default to main plants if your team cannot hold the long lane.
Trade the retakeStay close enough to convert the first defender swing into a trade.
Defense

How to defend Pearl without losing mid for free

Pearl defense is strongest when defenders keep mid honest. You do not need to fight every round, but attackers should not get Mid Plaza, Art and Link pressure without spending utility or time.

B Long still needs respect. Patch 11.08 reduced some of the oppressive B Main post-plant control, but B remains dangerous if defenders give up long space and retake one by one. The best defense slows the hit, keeps site players alive and retakes with grouped utility.

Layer 1Mid infoTrack Plaza, Doors and Art pressure before rotating.
Layer 2B Long delayForce attackers to spend utility before they reach the plant zone.
Layer 3A Art watchDo not let A splits appear behind the site anchor for free.
Layer 4Retake packGroup through link, site or spawn routes instead of dry-swinging alone.
Simple rule On Pearl, losing mid often matters before losing site. Call mid pressure early so anchors know which angles are real.
Agents

Best agent roles for Pearl

Pearl rewards clean role coverage. Your team needs smokes for long lanes and links, initiator utility for mid and B Long, sentinel control for flanks and enough entry power to convert space into a plant. For a wider lineup view, use the best VALORANT team comps by map guide.

ControllerOmen / Astra styleCuts B Long, A Link, Mid Doors and site retake angles.
InitiatorFade / Skye styleClears Mid, Art, B Long and close site layers before contact.
SentinelKilljoy / Cypher styleControls flank timing and stabilizes site holds or post-plants.
DuelistJett / Raze styleTakes first space after smokes, flashes or reveal utility.
FlexSecond utilityAdds extra flash, molly or smoke value for retakes and mid fights.

In solo queue, pick around what the team lacks. If nobody can smoke B Long or Mid Doors, pick controller. If nobody can clear B Long or Art, pick initiator. If nobody watches flank, pick sentinel.

Post-plant

Pearl post-plants and retakes

Pearl’s most famous habit is planting B for long or main. Patch 11.08 did not delete B post-plants, but Riot specifically wanted to make playing from main more risky and predictable. That means attackers should hold site space, not vanish into one distant angle every round.

Retakes are won by clearing the first layer before tapping spike. On A, defenders need to check Art, Link and site corners. On B, defenders must solve Long, Hall, Dugout and site cover without feeding isolated fights.

Attack post-plantHold more than main

B Long value is strong, but site, Hall and Link space matter after the patch context.

Defense retakeClear layered angles

Use utility before crossing long sightlines and trade the first site fight.

AreaAttack focusDefense focus
A SitePressure A Main with Art or Link so defenders cannot hold one front.Track Art, delay site contact and retake through Link or spawn together.
MidUse Plaza, Doors and Connector to force defenders into uncertain rotations.Contest information safely and call when mid is lost.
B SiteUse B Long pressure, but keep enough site space to survive the retake.Delay the plant, clear Long carefully and retake with grouped utility.
Mistakes

Common Pearl mistakes that lose ranked rounds

Most Pearl losses come from repeating one obvious lane. The map has no special mechanic to hide weak structure, so bad spacing becomes visible quickly.

MistakeIgnoring midNo mid pressure makes A and B hits easy to read.
MistakeOverusing B Long plantsMain-only holds are more predictable after Pearl’s B changes.
MistakeForgetting A ArtA splits collapse when Art is ignored or called late.
MistakeSolo retaking BLong lanes punish isolated swings before utility arrives.
MistakePlanting without spaceThe spike is weak if attackers abandon every close angle.
MistakeLate mid callsAnchors need to know when Link or Connector pressure is possible.

Win Pearl by keeping the map honest

Pearl rewards teams that combine mid control, long-lane discipline and realistic post-plants. Keep the plan simple, but make defenders respect more than one lane.
