Quick Answer

Equip Kicks from the Locker, then pair them with a compatible Outfit.

Open Locker → Kicks, select an owned pair, and equip it. Kicks replace the original footwear only on compatible Outfits and provide no competitive advantage. If the shoes do not appear, test another Outfit and check Epic’s live Kicks Usability guidance before treating the item as missing.

Cosmetic Type

What Kicks are in Fortnite

Kicks are standalone footwear cosmetics. When a pair is equipped with a compatible Outfit, it replaces that Outfit’s original shoes with the selected Kicks. The category includes licensed real-world footwear and Fortnite-original designs.

Kicks do not improve movement speed, sprint duration, sliding, jumping, hitbox behavior, audio, aim, or matchmaking. Epic describes them as purely cosmetic. Their value comes from how many useful combinations they create inside your existing Locker.

How to equip Kicks in Fortnite

The Kicks slot is handled through the Locker like other cosmetic categories. Equip the shoes first, then choose an Outfit that supports them.

Fit Check

Check Outfit compatibility before judging a pair

A pair can be owned correctly and still not display on the Outfit currently selected. Kicks need an Outfit whose model supports replacement footwear. Fortnite expanded compatibility after launch, so an old launch-week list is not a reliable 2026 reference.

Use the live Locker preview first. Epic’s current Kicks Usability support page is the authoritative compatibility destination. Fortnite’s March 2025 update stated that all but a few Outfits were compatible, and changed the old compatibility presentation to focus on the remaining exceptions.

Built-in shoes are not Kicks: footwear already modeled as part of an Outfit cannot be removed and equipped on a different Outfit.
Experience Limits

Where Kicks are not usable

Epic’s current support guidance lists experiences and presentation systems where Kicks cannot be used. These restrictions are separate from Outfit compatibility: a supported Outfit can still lose the Kicks presentation when the experience itself does not support the cosmetic type.

Important: an experience limitation does not remove the item from the Epic account. Return to the Locker and test a supported Outfit in a regular supported experience.
Purchase Check

Buy Kicks for combinations, not for the logo alone

A strong Kicks purchase should work with several Outfits you already use. Before buying, choose three target skins, preview the pair on each one, check the current experience limits, and compare the price with other cosmetic priorities.

Licensed branding can make a pair recognizable, but that does not automatically make it the best Locker purchase. Fortnite-original shoes can create broader visual combinations, while a highly specific real-world design may only suit a narrow color palette.

Purchase Safety

Cancel or refund eligible Kicks carefully

Kicks follow Fortnite’s general self-service Item Shop purchase rules when the transaction is eligible. Cancel Purchase can be available for 24 hours after purchase if the item has not been used or equipped in a game mode. If that route is unavailable, an eligible purchase from the previous 30 days may be returnable with a Return Ticket.

Each account can hold up to three Return Tickets and receives one new ticket every 365 days while below the cap. Do not spend a ticket before checking whether the no-ticket Cancel Purchase option is still available.

Locker Roles

Kicks, Outfit shoes, Sidekicks, and Back Blings are different

The word “kicks” describes the standalone footwear slot. It does not include the shoes permanently modeled into an Outfit, and it has no connection to Sidekicks despite the similar spelling.

Fast Fixes

Fix Kicks that are missing or not showing

Start with compatibility and account identity. Reinstalling Fortnite is rarely the correct first move for a cosmetic that is owned but not visible on one Outfit.

Kicks disappear on one Outfit

Switch to another Outfit and check the live Kicks Usability guidance.

Do not unlink a console blindly: if several cosmetics are missing, use the missing Fortnite cosmetics guide and identify the correct Epic account first.

FAQ

Fortnite Kicks FAQ

What are Kicks in Fortnite?

Kicks are standalone footwear cosmetics that replace the original shoes on compatible Outfits. They are purely cosmetic and do not provide a competitive advantage.

How do I equip Kicks in Fortnite?

Open Fortnite, enter the Locker, select the Kicks category, choose an owned pair, and equip it. Then select a compatible Outfit to preview the combination.

Do Fortnite Kicks work with every Outfit?

Most Outfits support Kicks, but exceptions can remain. Use the live Locker preview and Epic’s Kicks Usability support page instead of relying on an old compatibility list.

Do Kicks make you faster in Fortnite?

No. Kicks do not change speed, sprinting, jumping, sliding, hitboxes, combat, rank, or matchmaking.

Which Fortnite experiences do not support Kicks?

Epic lists LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, LEGO Fortnite Brick Life, Rocket Racing, creator islands using LEGO or Fall Guys Outfits, and Dance Mannequin or Player Reference devices in UEFN as unsupported.

Can I refund Fortnite Kicks?

An eligible Item Shop purchase may qualify for Cancel Purchase within 24 hours if it has not been used or equipped in a game mode. An eligible purchase from the previous 30 days may instead require a Return Ticket.

Can I use an Outfit’s built-in shoes on another skin?

No. Shoes built into an Outfit are part of that Outfit. Only cosmetics in the standalone Kicks category can be equipped with other compatible Outfits.

Why are my Fortnite Kicks not showing?

The selected Outfit or experience may not support Kicks, a Locker filter may be active, or the wrong Epic account may be open. Test another compatible Outfit in a supported experience before changing account links.
