Whether you’re switching from console to PC, trying to understand what changes on each platform, or deciding where to start — console and PC are two meaningfully different experiences in Rainbow Six Siege. The core game is the same. The mechanics, performance ceiling, matchmaking, and competitive ecosystem are not.
This guide explains every real difference between R6 Siege on console and PC — and exactly what happens to your account, rank, and progression when you switch.
Platform-by-Platform Overview
At a glance — what each platform offers out of the box, before any settings changes.
🎮 Console (PS5 / Xbox Series X|S)
60fps or 120fps — Performance Mode required for 120fps on next-gen hardware
Controller only — DualSense / Xbox controller with aim assist enabled
Fixed FOV — no adjustable field of view
Console matchmaking pool by default — separate MMR from PC
Crossplay optional — can enable PC pool or stay console-only
Mouse & keyboard — no aim assist; precise aiming ceiling is higher
Adjustable FOV — wider field of view gives more visual information
PC matchmaking pool — always active, cannot be disabled
Full graphics settings — texture quality, shadows, render scale etc.
Controller support with aim assist — but still in PC matchmaking
Old-Gen Console (PS4 / Xbox One)
PS4 and Xbox One are capped at 60fps with no Performance Mode option. If you’re on last-gen hardware and considering a switch, the frame rate gap between old-gen console and a mid-range gaming PC is significant — and directly noticeable in fast peeks and gunfights.
Key Differences — Side by Side
The exact differences that matter for competitive play — explained without fluff.

Frame Rate
60fps (PS4/XB1) or up to 120fps (PS5/XSX Performance Mode)

Crossplay & Cross-Progression — The Full Rules
Crossplay and cross-progression are both available in R6 Siege — but they work differently and are often confused. Here’s exactly what transfers and what doesn’t.
✅
Crossplay — Console can join PC matchmaking
Console players (PS5, Xbox) can enable crossplay in settings to be placed into the PC matchmaking pool. Important: if any player in your squad is on PC, the entire squad is automatically placed in PC matchmaking — regardless of individual settings.
⚠️
PC cannot join console-only lobbies
PC players are always in the PC matchmaking pool. There is no setting to opt into console-only matchmaking on PC. Crossplay on PC is permanently active and cannot be disabled.
✅
Cross-Progression — Skins, Operators & Currency Transfer
All cosmetics, unlocked operators, Battle Pass progress, and R6 Credits are shared across all platforms via your Ubisoft account. Switch from PS5 to PC — your entire inventory is waiting for you. Link your accounts at ubisoft.com to activate this.
❌
Competitive Rank Does NOT Transfer
Your ranked MMR and visible rank are tracked separately for console and PC. Playing on PC for the first time means starting placement matches from scratch — your Gold III on PS5 has no bearing on your PC rank. Both can coexist on the same account but never affect each other.
How to Enable Cross-Progression
Go to ubisoft.com → sign in → Account Settings → Linked Accounts. Connect your PlayStation Network or Xbox account to your Ubisoft account. Once linked, all progression is automatically shared the next time you log into Siege on any platform.
Switching from Console to PC — What to Expect
Making the switch to PC is a meaningful transition. Most players underestimate the adaptation period. Here’s what to realistically prepare for.
01
Your rank resets to zero on PC. You’ll complete placement matches and be placed based on your PC MMR — which starts fresh. Expect to spend 4–8 weeks finding your accurate rank on PC.
02
Mouse aiming has a real learning curve. Aim assist on console creates a margin for error that doesn’t exist with MnK. Raw mouse precision takes time to develop — especially for flick shots and snap aim. Most players see 6–12 weeks before feeling fully adapted.
03
Your skins and operators are already there. Link your Ubisoft account and everything you unlocked on console appears on PC immediately. No repurchases, no re-unlocking Battle Pass content.
04
The PC playerbase is more mechanically skilled on average. Especially in Platinum and above, PC players have precision advantages. Expect to play at a bracket 1–2 ranks below your console level during the adjustment period.
05
You can keep both accounts active. Your console and PC ranks coexist. You can switch back and play on console anytime — nothing is deleted or reset when you start playing on PC.
The Biggest PC Advantage: Uncapped Frame Rate + FOV
The two changes that most console-to-PC switchers notice first: seeing more of the map at once (wider FOV) and the absence of input lag at 60fps. At 144fps+ on PC, peeks feel instant, sound cues are more precise, and the game’s movement mechanics open up significantly. Most players report the switch feeling “unfair” within 2–3 months as their muscle memory adapts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Console players (PlayStation and Xbox) can enable crossplay to join the PC matchmaking pool. However, PC players cannot opt into console-only matchmaking — crossplay is always active for PC and cannot be disabled. If a squad contains even one PC player, the entire squad is placed into PC matchmaking.
Yes. R6 Siege supports cross-progression via your Ubisoft account. Your cosmetics, operators, Battle Pass progress, and R6 Credits are shared across all platforms. Your competitive rank, however, is tracked separately per platform — your console rank and PC rank are independent of each other.
Generally yes — the PC playerbase trends higher in average skill due to mouse and keyboard precision, uncapped frame rates, and wider FOV giving more visual information. Players switching from console to PC typically experience a 1–3 month adaptation period before reaching their previous comfort level. Starting at a lower rank than your console rank is expected and normal.
Yes. R6 Siege supports controllers on PC and provides aim assist when using a controller on that platform. However, you will still be matched against mouse and keyboard players if crossplay is enabled, which puts you at a mechanical disadvantage in most gunfights.
Your rank does not transfer. Console rank and PC rank are completely separate in R6 Siege. If you have never played ranked on PC, you will need to complete placement matches to establish your PC MMR from scratch. Your cosmetics, operators, and progression carry over — but not your rank.
Bottom Line
Console and PC are two meaningfully different experiences in R6 Siege — same game, different skill ceiling, different input mechanics, different matchmaking pools. Your skins and operators carry over when you switch. Your rank does not. Crossplay exists but works asymmetrically: console players choose to join PC lobbies, while PC players are always in the PC pool.
If you’re switching from console to PC, expect 1–3 months of adaptation before you feel settled. The frame rate and FOV advantages make the transition worth it long-term — but the first weeks are genuinely harder.
