Fortnite Tournament Locked? Check Entry Requirements
A lock on a tournament does not always mean your account is broken. The event may not have started, or a particular entry requirement may be missing.
In this guide

Read the lock before guessing the cause
Epic’s support page directs players to the lock icon and Details section. Capture the exact requirement shown rather than using a generic description such as “not eligible.” Check the event name, region, session and start time together.
This matters when comparing your experience with a friend’s screenshot. Two similar tournament posters can refer to different sessions or conditions. Establish that you are checking the same event before copying their troubleshooting steps.

Build an event-specific checklist
The official competitive guide requires 2FA and explains that participation conditions vary. Read the event rules for account level, age, rank, format and any qualification path instead of assuming one universal account-level number.
Check each team member when entering a team event. Your own account meeting a condition does not establish that every member does. Make a shared checklist without sharing passwords, authentication codes or private account documents.
Do not generalize the 14-event requirement
Epic says most cash-prized tournaments require participation in 14 distinct Epic tournaments within 180 days. That is not the same as 14 matches, and the wording does not cover every event. Use the rules for the tournament you are trying to enter.
Plan eligibility before tournament day. If a required condition takes prior participation, repeatedly restarting on the start date will not create that history. Keep an event list with dates and names rather than counting rounds played.
| Message or situation | Next action |
|---|---|
| Event has not started | Check the session start time |
| 2FA requirement | Verify 2FA on the account used in Fortnite |
| Qualification requirement | Read that event’s prior-participation rule |
| Rank or account-level requirement | Compare the actual account with the event’s threshold |
| Requirement appears fulfilled | Keep the exact notice and request official review |

If the displayed requirement looks wrong
Document the exact tournament, missing-condition text and the evidence that condition is met. Avoid relying only on an unrelated event’s eligibility. If the problem is specifically a 2FA warning, use the account-identity checks in the linked 2FA guide.
Do not try to work around eligibility with false account information. A precise support request is more useful than changing several settings at once, because it preserves the condition that needs to be reviewed.
Frequently asked questions
Is 14 matches the same as 14 distinct tournaments?
No. Read the event’s participation requirement carefully; matches and distinct events are different counts.
Does one account-level threshold apply to all events?
No universal threshold is assumed here. Check the rules and requirement display for the specific tournament.
