Fortnite Anonymous Mode: Hide Your Name
Mask your own display name, hide other names from the stream and add a random matchmaking delay. This is the complete 2026 setup, including what the privacy controls cannot hide.
Settings → Account and Privacy → Gameplay Privacy.
Turn Hide Your Display Name From Stream Snipers on, then press Apply. Use the separate other-name control if player names should be masked on the stream. Epic warns that some experiences do not allow your display name to be hidden, so Anonymous presentation is not universal.
What Fortnite Anonymous Mode actually does
The community calls it Anonymous Mode. Epic currently groups the relevant options under Streamer Mode and Gameplay Privacy. The own-name control hides the display name during supported gameplay to make stream sniping more difficult.
It does not rename the Epic account, erase account identity or create a second profile. Your actual display name remains attached to the account and is still used by Epic’s systems. The setting changes what is presented in supported gameplay views.
How to turn on Fortnite Anonymous Mode
Epic uses the same settings destination across supported platforms, while the button that opens the menu changes. On PC or Mac press Esc, on PlayStation press Options, on Xbox press Menu, on Switch press +, and on Android open Menu and then the gear icon.
Use the platform-specific menu control while in Fortnite.
Open the main settings interface rather than the social profile options.

Do not confuse these options with Party Joinability or voice-chat controls.

The three Fortnite Streamer Mode controls
A safer stream uses three separate layers. Own-name masking protects your displayed identity, other-name masking protects people shown on the broadcast, and the matchmaking delay makes repeated queue timing less predictable.
Turning on only the own-name control leaves other display names and queue timing exposed. Turning on all streamer controls improves those three surfaces, but it is still not a complete privacy system for overlays, notifications, voice chat or accidental screen sharing.
How to hide other Fortnite player names
Epic offers Hide Other Display Names On Your Stream inside the streamer setup. A related regular-gameplay setting can replace names of players outside your party or squad with the generic label Player.
Use it when your account name should not be visible to viewers during supported gameplay.
Use it to prevent random opponents’ or participants’ names from being broadcast.
Epic’s regular-gameplay article says the generic Player replacement applies to names outside the party or squad.
If every opponent suddenly appears as Player, the game may be working exactly as configured. Return to Account and Privacy, scroll to Gameplay Privacy, find the other-name option and turn it off if normal labels are needed again.
How Hidden Matchmaking Delay works
Epic describes Hidden Matchmaking Delay as a random small delay that also hides matchmaking status updates. Each attempt selects a delay between 0 and the number of seconds chosen in the setting.
Because the delay is randomly generated for each attempt, a viewer cannot rely on one identical countdown every time. This can help limit repeat in-game harassment such as stream sniping, but Epic warns that it creates longer queue times.
Open Social Menu, Settings, Account and Privacy, then Gameplay Privacy and use the delay slider.

Why Fortnite Anonymous Mode may not work
Most failures come from an unsaved setting, the wrong privacy control or an experience that does not support masking. Test those explanations before reinstalling Fortnite or changing the real display name.
Own-name masking and other-name masking are separate. Make sure the intended one is on.
Epic lists Apply as the final setup step. Reopen Gameplay Privacy to confirm the saved value.
Some experiences do not allow hiding. Compare behavior in a standard supported context before calling the account broken.

Protect participants and random players shown by the broadcast.
Choose a range that balances queue privacy against the documented longer wait.
Use Party Privacy so viewers cannot convert public information into an unwanted party entry.
Make sure friend requests, whispers, desktop popups and personal audio are not exposed by the scene.
A platform-side delay can reduce live positional information that in-game name masking does not cover.
