Fortnite Gifting Guide 2026
Fortnite gifting sounds simple, but the rules are strict: 2FA, level requirement, friend-list age, daily gift limits, negative V-Bucks restrictions, non-refundable gifts and item-specific exclusions. This guide explains what you can gift, what you cannot gift, why gifting errors happen and how to send gifts safely.
How does Fortnite gifting work?
Fortnite gifting lets you buy eligible in-game content with V-Bucks or buy certain pass gifts with real money and send them to a friend. Epic says gifting requires two-factor authentication, account level 2 or higher, and the recipient must have been on your Friends list for at least 2 days. After the gift is sent, the friend must log in to receive it.
The big warnings are just as important: all gifts are non-refundable, gifting is limited to 5 gifts every 24 hours, the recipient cannot have a negative V-Bucks balance, and many items cannot be gifted at all. V-Bucks themselves cannot be gifted.
Enable 2FA, check the friend has been added for 2 days, confirm the exact Epic display name, make sure the item is giftable, then send carefully because Fortnite gifts cannot be refunded.
Fortnite gifting requirements in 2026
Epic lists several requirements before a gift can be sent. The sender needs 2FA enabled and must be level 2 or higher. The recipient must have been on the sender’s Friends list for at least 2 days. The recipient also cannot have a negative V-Bucks balance.
If gifting suddenly does not work, do not start with the Item Shop. Start with these requirements. A missing 2FA setup, wrong Epic account, new friend connection or negative balance is enough to block the gift even if the item is visible in the shop.
| Requirement | Epic rule | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 2FA | Must be enabled | Epic requires 2FA to send gifts in Fortnite. |
| Account level | Level 2 or higher | Very new accounts cannot gift immediately. |
| Friend age | At least 2 days | Newly added friends must wait before gifts work. |
| Recipient balance | No negative V-Bucks balance | A negative balance can block gift receiving. |
| Platform | Android, PC, PlayStation, Switch, Xbox | Epic lists gifting availability on these platforms. |
How to send a gift in Fortnite
The exact button labels can change slightly by season or shop layout, but the logic is stable: open the Item Shop, choose an eligible item or offer, select the gift option if it appears, choose the correct friend, review the price and confirm. If there is no gift option, the item may be restricted, already owned by the recipient, not currently giftable or not in the Item Shop.
What can you gift in Fortnite?
Epic describes gifting as a way to purchase in-game content with V-Bucks and send it to friends. It also says real-money purchases for the different passes can be sent to friends. In practice, the safest assumption is that an item is giftable only if Fortnite shows the gift option for that item or offer.
Cosmetic gifts are most commonly tied to Item Shop availability. If the skin, pickaxe, emote, wrap or bundle is not currently in the shop, Epic says it cannot be gifted. For passes, the rules are narrower because only certain real-money pass gifts are allowed.
Eligible skins, pickaxes, emotes, wraps and bundles can be giftable when currently in the shop.
Epic says passes bought through real-money transactions can be gifted, subject to restrictions.
Epic says the recipient must log in after the gift is sent to receive it.
Gift pricing can differ because discounts based on your owned items may not apply to the recipient.
What cannot be gifted in Fortnite?
Epic’s list is specific. You cannot gift V-Bucks, including packs that contain V-Bucks. You cannot gift Battle Pass Levels. You cannot gift items that are not currently in the Item Shop. You also cannot gift certain real-money offers, Fortnite Crew, event passes, some additional offers and dynamically priced bundles where the recipient already owns one or more items.
| Cannot be gifted | Reason to watch | Buyer note |
|---|---|---|
| V-Bucks | Epic says V-Bucks cannot be gifted, including packs with V-Bucks. | Use official purchase methods, not third-party promises. |
| Battle Pass Levels | Epic lists Battle Pass Levels as not giftable. | Do not confuse levels with pass gifts. |
| Items not in the Item Shop | Only currently available eligible items can be gifted. | Rare skins cannot be gifted just because someone owns them. |
| Fortnite Crew | Epic lists Fortnite Crew under offers that cannot be gifted. | Crew value stays tied to the subscriber account. |
| Event Passes | Epic lists Event Passes as not giftable. | Check each season’s pass screen before assuming. |
| Dynamically priced bundles | Restricted when the recipient already owns one or more items. | Recipient ownership can change the gift option and price. |
Fortnite daily gift limit: 5 gifts every 24 hours
Epic says gifting is limited to 5 gifts per 24 hours, based on the time each gift was sent. This is not always a midnight reset. If you send a gift at 9 PM, that gift slot resets around 9 PM the next day.
For players sending multiple gifts, this rolling cooldown is the detail that causes confusion. You may have one gift slot reset while the others are still locked. If gifting fails after several sends, count the last 24 hours, not just today’s calendar date.
The 5 gift limit is rolling. Each gift has its own 24-hour timing based on when it was sent.
Can Fortnite gifts be refunded?
Epic’s Fortnite gifting article says all gifts are non-refundable. Epic’s refund article also lists Gifted Purchases among items that cannot be refunded through Cancel Purchase or Return Tickets. That means the safest move is to confirm the exact friend and item before sending.
There is a separate risk around payment reversals. Epic says if a player who sent you a gift requests a refund or payment reversal for the V-Bucks spent on that item, the gift can be affected. Epic also says recent gifts can be reversed during value recovery after a refund or payment reversal, and negative V-Bucks can be created if there is not enough value to recover.
Do not send until the item and recipient are correct.
Gifted purchases are not eligible for standard Fortnite return tickets.
If the payment behind the gift is reversed, the recipient may lose the gift.
A recipient with negative V-Bucks cannot receive gifts according to Epic.
Why can I not send a Fortnite gift?
Most gifting errors come from one of three areas: account requirements, recipient restrictions or item restrictions. Epic specifically mentions the 5 gift limit, recipient already owning the item, friends for less than 2 days and temporary PC files as possible causes for gifting issues.
How pass gifting works in Fortnite
Pass gifting has extra rules. Epic says passes purchased using V-Bucks cannot be gifted, and only passes bought through real-money transactions can be gifted. It also says pass gifting will be turned off toward the end of the season. If a pass gift token is left unused, Epic says it will be refunded as V-Bucks at the end of the current season.
The practical lesson is simple: if you want to gift a Battle Pass, OG Pass, LEGO Pass, Festival-related pass or similar pass offer, check the current in-game shop or pass screen for the live gift option and payment method. Do not assume a pass can be gifted with V-Bucks just because a normal skin can be.
| Pass rule | What it means | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| V-Bucks pass purchases | Epic says these cannot be gifted. | Trying to gift a pass using V-Bucks. |
| Real-money pass gifts | Some pass gifts can be bought as real-money transactions. | Assuming all passes behave like Item Shop skins. |
| End of season | Pass gifting can be turned off toward season end. | Waiting until the final days to gift. |
| Unused token | Unused pass gift token can be refunded as V-Bucks at season end. | Thinking the gift can sit unused forever. |
Can you gift V-Bucks in Fortnite?
No. Epic says V-Bucks cannot be gifted, including Fortnite packs that contain V-Bucks. Epic also says V-Bucks purchases do not include redemption codes and cannot be gifted to other accounts. This is important because “cheap gift V-Bucks” offers are a common red flag.
V-Bucks balance can also differ by platform. Epic’s balance page separates V-Bucks into platform-specific and any-platform balances. That matters when a player thinks they have enough V-Bucks to gift from one device but the balance shown on another platform looks different. For more detail, see our negative V-Bucks guide and purchase history guide.
Do not pay a third party for “gifted V-Bucks.” Epic says V-Bucks cannot be gifted to another account.
Safe Fortnite gifting checklist
Gifting is final, so use a small checklist before you press confirm. It prevents the classic mistakes: wrong friend, wrong item, no refund option, locked pass gift, negative balance or third-party scam.
| Check | Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 2FA | Is 2FA enabled on the correct Epic account? | Epic requires 2FA to send gifts. |
| Friend | Has the recipient been added for at least 2 days? | New friends cannot receive gifts immediately. |
| Name | Did you verify the Epic display name? | Gifts are non-refundable if sent to the wrong player. |
| Item | Is the gift option visible for this item? | Unavailable or restricted items cannot be gifted. |
| Balance | Does the recipient have a clean V-Bucks balance? | Epic says negative V-Bucks blocks gift receiving. |
| Limit | Have you sent fewer than 5 gifts in the last 24 hours? | The cooldown is rolling by gift time. |
| Refund | Are you comfortable with no refund? | Epic says all Fortnite gifts are non-refundable. |
