Assassin's Creed games in release order

This is the order the games came out, which is also the order Ubisoft's own series guide uses. Dates are the first release on any platform as listed in Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed games catalogue. Several older games reached PC weeks or months after consoles: Syndicate, for example, came out on consoles on 23 October 2015 and on PC on 19 November 2015.

Two dates are given as years only. Ubisoft's own pages list different days for Revelations (29 November and 14 December 2011), and its catalogue only carries the 2019 remaster of Assassin's Creed III, so we do not print a day for either.

Assassin's Creed games in chronological (story) order

Story order follows the historical years each game covers. The years below are the ones Ubisoft gives in its Evolution of the Brotherhood timeline, written for Mirage. Ubisoft does not give a span for Assassin's Creed II or Shadows there, so those rows use the century from Ubisoft's game pages.

Assassin's Creed games by story year

Mirage sits before Valhalla because it tells how Basim became the Master Assassin you meet in Valhalla. Rogue and Assassin's Creed III overlap, with Rogue starting two years earlier.

Newest: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced (2026)

Ubisoft released Black Flag Resynced on 9 July 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, where it sells through the Ubisoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Ubisoft Singapore led the remake, 13 years after the original, on the same Anvil engine version used for Shadows. Matt Ryan, the original voice of Edward Kenway, recorded new lines.

Upcoming Assassin's Creed games: Hexe, Jade and Invictus

Only one future project has an official profile from Ubisoft. Everything else you read about release windows comes from leaks, and none of it is confirmed.

Release order or story order: which should you play

Ubisoft describes the series as a centuries-spanning metanarrative that is meant to unfold in a specific order, which is the release order. The modern-day plot with Desmond Miles runs from the first game to Assassin's Creed III, and Layla Hassan carries it through Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla.

Release order

Best for the modern-day story. Start with Assassin's Creed (2007) and accept older controls in the first five games.

Story order

Best for history. Start with Odyssey and Origins, then Mirage and Valhalla, and you see the Hidden Ones become the Assassins.

By style of play

Ubisoft splits the series into periods: action-adventure games up to Syndicate, then the RPGs Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. Mirage sits between the two styles.

Shortest path

Ezio trilogy (II, Brotherhood, Revelations), then Black Flag, then Origins. Each block is self-contained.

Playing Assassin's Creed on PC through Ubisoft Connect

Every mainline game is on PC. Ubisoft Connect is Ubisoft's PC app for managing and launching its games, and copies bought on Steam or the Epic Games Store are tied to a Ubisoft account the first time you link the two accounts.

  • If you launch through Steam while signed in to a different Ubisoft account, Ubisoft shows the "Game activated on a different account" error.
  • Ubisoft warns that linking and unlinking can have a permanent effect, and you can only re-link the same platform account you connected before.
  • A Ubisoft account's library shows which Assassin's Creed games it owns, which is what you compare on an account listing.

For how Ubisoft account links work across platforms, read our Ubisoft account linking guide. If you are comparing accounts, our NFA vs Full Access explainer covers what access you get.
