Rarest Clash of Clans obstacles: the ranking
Supercell publishes no ownership numbers, so this ranking rests on two facts. Seasonal obstacles spawn only during their own event, and clearing one removes it for good in exchange for its reward. An obstacle can only be in a village today if the account was active that season and the player chose not to clear it. Older means rarer, with a few twists.

Clash of Clans Halloween obstacles by year (2014 to 2026)
Supercell's files hold a Halloween obstacle for every year from 2014. There is no 2012 or 2013 entry. The community wiki says those two Halloweens only changed the look of normal trees and mushrooms. Until 2025 every Halloween obstacle cost 25,000 Elixir to clear and paid back 75,000. The 2026 Curious Stump breaks the pattern.

The 2017 obstacle is called just "Halloween Obstacle" in the game. Supercell's Halloween 2017 post named it the Baby Dragon Skull and gave the same numbers: 25,000 Elixir to clear, 75,000 back. The Curious Stump is new: it is in the 21 October 2026 files and not in the April 2026 ones, and its clear cost of 2,026 Elixir matches its year.
Clash of Clans Christmas trees by year (2012 to 2025)
The Clashmas Tree is the one seasonal obstacle that goes back to the game's first year. Since Supercell's October 2025 update, each tree displays the year it was released, which is the easiest way to check an old village. The 2012 tree is the only one that pays 50,000 Gold. Every tree since then pays 75,000.

Clash of Clans anniversary cakes by year (2017 to 2026)
The first anniversary obstacle came with the 5th Clashiversary in August 2017, which promised "a special obstacle". Since 2019 the clear cost and reward play on the anniversary number, which makes them easy to tell apart.

Clash of Clans Lunar New Year obstacles (2018 to 2026)
Lunar New Year obstacles began in 2018. Supercell's Lunar New Year 2018 post introduced the Fortune Tree, worth 75,000 Gold, and a firework obstacle that sets off fireworks when removed. The files hold no Lunar New Year obstacle for 2022.

The Glowy Lantern is the only name used twice. The 2019 one spawned in the Builder Base and the 2020 one in the Home Village, and the files treat them as two separate obstacles. Builder Base progress is explained in our Builder Base guide.

How to check which rare obstacles a village holds
Seasonal obstacles are spread across the map, and many players have moved them with shovels, so a quick look at the village is not enough. These checks use only what the game itself shows.
- Tap the trees. Every Clashmas Tree shows its release year. A 2012 or 2013 tree is the single strongest sign of a launch-era village.
- Open the layout editor. Stashed seasonal obstacles are grouped by season in its inventory, so shoveled ones that are not on the map are easy to find.
- Read the clear cost. Several obstacles are easy to date by price: the Curious Stump costs 2,026 Elixir, the 13th and 14th cakes cost 13 and 14 Gold, the 7th Birthday Surprise 7,777 Elixir.
- Check the Builder Base. The 2019 Glowy Lantern only ever spawned there, so it is easy to miss.
- Count before you clear. With no Builder needed since February 2025, clearing is instant. Decide what to keep before tapping anything on an old account.
A rare obstacle gives no gameplay advantage. Its value is collector value: it proves how long the village has been played and that the owner kept it. For an account buyer that makes it a useful history check alongside the Town Hall level and the Gold Pass skins.
Obstacle rules that matter for old villages
- Limits. The game files set a maximum of 45 obstacles, a respawn timer of 28,800 seconds (one every 8 hours) for normal obstacles and a cap of 500 shoveled obstacles.
- Shovel of Obstacles. Introduced in December 2018 to move one obstacle anywhere. Since the December 2022 update a shoveled obstacle stays movable for good, and it still counts toward the obstacle limit even when stashed.
- Layout editor. Since September 2024, seasonal obstacles are grouped by season in the layout editor inventory.
- No Builder needed. Since February 2025, clearing an obstacle no longer takes a Builder. One tap and a rare one is gone, so be careful on an old account.
- Hidden in attacks. The October 2025 update added a setting that hides obstacles and decorations in the defender's village a few seconds into an attack.
A village with a full row of old trees has usually been played since its first winter. That is also why rare obstacles and old Gold Pass skins tend to sit on the same accounts. Only if you want the resources. Clearing removes the obstacle for good, and since February 2025 it no longer needs a Builder, so one tap is enough to lose it.
