CS2 cases list: all 44 containers in release order

We built this table from Valve's update notes and blog posts, the old CS:GO blog for 2013 to 2023 and the Steam news feed for app 730 for the CS2 years. The rare special item column uses Valve's wording where a post names it. Where a post only shows images, we used Valve's game file items_game.txt, which names the rare-item list each case draws from, so two cases that share a list share the same knife or glove pool.

"Original knives" means the five knives that came with the Arms Deal: Bayonet, Flip Knife, Gut Knife, Karambit and M9 Bayonet. Valve's 14 August 2013 notes say the new cases have "a chance to contain new knives", and the five names come from the game file. For CS:GO Weapon Case 2 we found no Valve post or release note with a date. Community records put it at 8 November 2013; treat that day as unconfirmed.

Ten cases came with an operation: the eight with "Operation" in the name (Bravo, Phoenix, Breakout, Vanguard, Wildfire, Hydra, Broken Fang and Riptide), the Falchion Case from Operation Bloodhound and the Shattered Web Case. Our list of every CS:GO operation has the full dates. CS2 launched on 27 September 2023, and the cases released since then are Kilowatt, Gallery and Fever.

Which CS2 cases have which knives

Cases reuse knife pools. Valve's game file gives each case a rare-item list, and the table groups cases by that list. The knife names in the second column come from Valve's posts where they exist. For the per-knife view, including finish counts, see our CS2 knife types guide.

Valve's wording backs the groups: the Spectrum Case has "the second generation of knives in Chroma finishes", the Dreams & Nightmares Case has "the Gamma Knives from the Operation Riptide case", Prisma and Prisma 2 have "the Horizon Knives in Chroma finishes", and the Fever Case has "Shattered Web knives in Chroma finishes". The Gallery Case points to the same rare-item list as the Kilowatt Case in the game file, which is why we list the Kukri for both.

CS2 cases with gloves

Gloves first appeared as rare special items in the Glove Case on 28 November 2016. Valve's post said that "unlike previous cases" the Special Items are 24 all-new gloves. Seven cases and one terminal have glove pools.

The Dead Hand set is the first new glove set since Broken Fang in December 2020. Glove types in the game file are Bloodhound, Sport, Driver, Hand Wraps, Moto, Specialist, Hydra and Broken Fang gloves.

CS2 terminals: Genesis and Dead Hand

Terminals replaced new key cases for the last two collections. Valve's Show Off post on 16 September 2025 introduced the Genesis Collection with 17 community finishes, accessed through Genesis Uplink Terminals that are "available as a weekly drop". The Dead Hand followed on 11 March 2026 with 17 finishes and 22 gloves, and Valve says you "purchase Dead Hand Collection items from Dead Hand Terminals".

How a terminal differs

You do not open it with a key for a random item. The terminal shows offers from the Arms Dealer, and since the 4 March 2026 update you can set a maximum offer limit so it only shows offers up to that price.

Genesis has no knife

The Genesis Collection's list in the game file has no rare special item list at all. The Dead Hand list does, for its gloves.

Sealed items

The game file names the items Sealed Genesis Terminal and Sealed Dead Hand Terminal. On 17 September 2025 Valve let customers in Belgium, the Netherlands and France unseal their Sealed Genesis Terminal items.

Where they come from

Both terminals come from the weekly drop, which needs Prime Status. Our care package guide covers how the weekly choice works.

Read more about the weekly choice and the Armory in our weekly care package guide.

Which CS2 cases still drop in 2026

Valve does not publish the list of weapon cases you can get from the weekly care package, and its update notes only list collection changes. That is why fan sites disagree. Here is everything Valve has said about how each case became available, with dates.

What Valve has published about case availability

2 Oct 2014Operation Breakout Weapon CaseDropping for all CS:GO players from that day

1 Oct 2025Gallery CaseRemoved from the Armory
16 Sep 2025Genesis Uplink TerminalAvailable as a weekly drop
11 Mar 2026Dead Hand TerminalAvailable as a possible weekly drop

As of 23 October 2026 Valve has not announced the Fever Case leaving the Armory, and it has never said whether the Gallery or Fever Case drops in the weekly care package. Any "active drop pool" list you see elsewhere is built from player reports, not from Valve.

One rule from the CS2 launch notes on 27 September 2023 still applies: weekly drops were replaced by the weekly care package, where you choose from options that include weapon cases.

What old cases mean for a CS2 account

  • Cases cannot be deleted. Valve removed the option to delete weapon cases from your inventory in the 2 October 2024 notes.
  • Keys bought in-game since 28 October 2019 cannot be traded or sold, so a key only opens cases on the account that bought it.
  • Items bought in the store, the Armory, by trade or on the Community Market carry a 7-day re-trade restriction since 2 October 2024. Our trade protection guide has the current rules.
  • Operation coins and service medals cannot be traded at all. See the service medals guide for how they show on a profile.

For a buyer that means the cases, the knife and the coins you see on an account are what stays with it. A case is an inventory item; the history around it, like an operation coin, is tied to the account.

Frequently asked questions

How many cases are in CS2?

42 weapon cases plus 2 terminals as of 23 October 2026. The cases run from the CS:GO Weapon Case (14 August 2013) to the Fever Case (31 March 2025); the terminals are Genesis (16 September 2025) and Dead Hand (11 March 2026).

What is the newest CS2 case?

The newest container is the Dead Hand Terminal from 11 March 2026. The newest weapon case is the Fever Case, added to the Armory on 31 March 2025.

What was the first CS:GO case?

The CS:GO Weapon Case and the eSports 2013 Case, both released with the Arms Deal update on 14 August 2013.

Which CS2 cases have gloves?

Glove, Operation Hydra, Clutch, Operation Broken Fang, Snakebite, Recoil and Revolution, plus the Dead Hand Terminal with 22 new gloves.

Which case has the Kukri knife?

The Kilowatt Case from 6 February 2024. The Gallery Case uses the same rare-item list in Valve's game file.

What cases drop in CS2 in 2026?

Valve does not publish the case list of the weekly care package. It has confirmed the Genesis and Dead Hand Terminals as weekly drops; everything else on drop-pool lists comes from player reports.

Are CS2 terminals the same as cases?

No. A terminal shows offers from the Arms Dealer that you buy, and you can cap the offer price. A case is opened with a key for one random item.

Can you still get the Gallery Case?

Not from the Armory. Valve removed it on 1 October 2025 after a last-chance notice on 10 September 2025. Existing Gallery Cases stay in inventories.
