CS2 Premier Rating Explained: CS Rating Colours, Seasons and What the Number Means

A CS2 Premier rating looks like a simple score until you ask which season it belongs to. Learn how CS Rating, its colours, the seasons and the season medal work, and what a rating on an account listing really proves.

Looking for a Counter-Strike 2 account?

Compare profile rank, medals and Steam level on every listing. This guide explains how to read a Premier rating.

1. What CS Rating is

CS Rating is Premier's skill number. Valve's Prime documentation lists Prime Status and profile level 10 as the requirements for Premier, and says that only Prime accounts get XP, Competitive Skill Groups and CS Ratings. “Profile Level 10” is the XP-based profile rank and not the Steam level, and a Service Medal resets that rank to 1.

The rating is not shown from the start. At the Season 1 to 2 change, Valve's season-change post said players had to re-establish their CS Rating by winning 10 matches, and the community wiki says every new season works this way. Until then there is no number to read.

2. The colour bands

Valve's release notes from October 2023 state that promotion and relegation matches only occur at colour boundaries, every 5,000 CS Rating points. The colour names and exact bands are documented by the community wiki and not by Valve, so treat the labels as community terms. The wiki calls the top band yellow.

CS Rating colour bands as documented by the community
ColourCS RatingWhat it means
Grey1,000 to 4,999The lowest band.
Light blue5,000 to 9,999The first band above grey.
Blue10,000 to 14,999A common mid band.
Purple15,000 to 19,999Above the middle of the ladder.
Pink20,000 to 24,999A high band.
Red25,000 to 29,999A very high band.
Gold30,000 and aboveThe top band, with no published cap.

We found no Valve percentile table or cap, and Valve changed win and loss amounts in October 2023. A colour in one season is therefore not proven to mean the same thing in another.

3. Seasons: why a rating has a date

Premier runs in seasons. Valve announced the start of each one in its news posts, and the recent ones are listed below.

Recent Premier seasons
SeasonStartedValve's announcement
Season 316 July 2025 (UTC)Season 3 announcement
Season 421 January 2026The Fourth Season
Season 58 July 2026Season 5, Armory, and More

At the earlier change from Season 1 to Season 2, Valve said ratings were recalibrated for the new season based on the previous season's performance, with a day of downtime. The posts for later seasons do not describe the carry-over, so a rating from an older season cannot be assumed to equal a current one.

Inactivity. The community wiki lists timers from 28 to 15 days, depending on the rating, after which a rating is hidden, and says the Premier menu shows your own timer. We found no Valve page that publishes them. Ask for a current screenshot rather than an old one.

Ask which season a rating is from

Listings can show a Premier rating where available. Check the season and the date against the table in this guide.

4. The season medal is not the current rating

Each season ends with a medal for players who qualify. Valve's posts explain that the colour of the medal corresponds to the highest CS Rating reached during the season, and the bars reflect total wins, one bar for every 25 wins up to five. To be eligible, an account needs to be in good standing, have 25 Premier match wins and an active rating at the end of the season.

The medal is therefore a record of a peak. A gold medal and a blue current rating can belong to the same account, and the medal says nothing about who played the matches.

5. Premier is not Competitive or Wingman

Competitive skill groups are assigned per map, and the community wiki says Wingman has its own rank. Valve's rank guide describes the per-map skill groups as separate from CS Rating. A listing that says “Global Elite” or “Supreme” without naming the mode and the map is describing something other than a Premier rating.

6. What a rating shows, and what it does not

7. Five questions before you buy

  1. Which season is the rating from, and is it active now?
  2. What is the date of the screenshot?
  3. Is it a Premier rating or a Competitive or Wingman rank?
  4. Does the account have Prime Status and profile level 10?
  5. Is the medal's colour the peak or the current rating?

8. Four mistakes that cost money

Reading a rating as lasting

It belongs to a season, and the community wiki says it is hidden until 10 wins in the next one.

Comparing colours across seasons

Valve changed rating amounts in 2023, and publishes no equivalence.

Mixing the medal with the rating

The medal shows the peak and wins, not the current number.

Mixing Premier and Competitive

They are separate systems with separate numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Prime to play Premier?

Yes. Valve lists Prime Status and profile level 10 as the Premier requirements.

How many matches does it take to get a CS Rating?

At the Season 1 to 2 change Valve said players re-establish their rating by winning 10 matches, and the community wiki says the same applies to every new season.

What do the CS Rating colours mean?

Promotion and relegation matches occur at colour boundaries, every 5,000 points. The names and bands are documented by the community, with grey at the bottom and gold above 30,000.

Does the season medal show my current rating?

No. Its colour shows the highest CS Rating reached in the season and its bars show wins, one per 25 up to five.

Is Premier rating the same as a Competitive rank?

No. Competitive skill groups are per map and are separate from CS Rating.

Does a rating carry over to the next season?

Valve recalibrated ratings between Seasons 1 and 2 and asked players to re-establish them with 10 wins. Its posts for later seasons do not describe a carry-over, and the community wiki says new seasons hide the rating until 10 wins.
