What GTA Online Level Really Tells You: Rank 100 vs 200 vs 500

A GTA Online rank of 500 sounds ten times as good as rank 50. It mostly means far more playtime, and the community wiki lists no new item after rank 120. Here is what the number tells you, and what matters more.

Rank is playtime. Assets are the account. RANK 100, RANK 200, RANK 500

1. The RP ladder: what rank 100, 200 and 500 cost

Rockstar does not publish a rank table. The community GTA Wiki documents a formula for the RP needed to reach any rank from 98 upwards: 25 × rank² + 23,575 × rank − 1,023,150. It matches the wiki's own values for ranks 100 and 120, and the other rows below are calculated from it.

Cumulative RP needed to reach a rank, compared with rank 100
Rank Cumulative RP Compared with rank 100 What changes in the game
100 1,584,350 1× The RPG, the final health increase and the bronze rank icon.
120 2,165,850 1.4× The Minigun, the last item unlock listed by the wiki.
200 4,691,850 3× No new items. The rank number rises.
300 8,299,350 5× No new items.
500 17,014,350 11× No new items. The wiki shows the rank icon turning silver.
1,000 47,551,850 30× Calculated from the formula only.

Highest rank (wiki)8,000

The wiki gives 8,000 as the highest rank, but we found no Rockstar page that states a maximum. The table also says nothing about hours: we found no reliable source for how long a rank takes, because it depends on the activities played and on bonus events.

2. What rank unlocks, and what it never did

Rank gates some weapons and customisation options, and the wiki lists them up to rank 120. Rockstar has also removed several rank requirements over the years. The wiki notes that armour tiers are no longer rank-gated and that safehouse ownership, once locked behind a low rank, was opened up in an update. The practical result is that rank is a poor guide to what a character can do.

The things that make a GTA Online character useful are bought with GTA$: properties, vehicles and businesses. A character with a modest rank and a large property portfolio can be more useful than a very high rank with none. That is why a listing's cash and bank figures matter, and why they need their own questions, as our Legacy vs Enhanced guide explains.

What the rank number tells you, and what needs a separate answer
Detail What it tells you What it does not tell you
Rank How much RP the character has earned. Money, properties, vehicles or how well the character plays.
Cash and bank Money at the time of the screenshot. Whether it was earned, bought with a Shark Card, or will move with the account.
Properties and vehicles What the character owns. The platform and game version where they exist.
Platform and version Where the character can be played. Whether progress can move to another platform.

Look beyond the level

Check the platform, the version and the assets next to the rank. The shop shows level, cash and bank balance for each listing.

3. Where the rank came from

A high rank can come from many hours of play, and Rockstar's own migration instructions show that the source matters. According to the PC migration guide, some profiles may not be eligible for migration from Legacy to Enhanced, for example because of suspensions, bans, or illegitimate or insufficient progress. A rank is therefore not a guarantee of anything. Ask how the progress was earned, and be careful with a rank far above what the playtime would explain.

There is one useful cross-check. The wiki's statistics page lists the pause-menu figures for GTA Online, including the character's RP, its creation date and the time played. Ask for them and check that they fit together, and that the RP matches the rank in the table above.

4. Rank and the move to Enhanced

GTAV Enhanced changed what “the same character” means. Rockstar's migration guide says that a PC profile can be migrated from Legacy to Enhanced, that migrating between PC and console is not supported, and that the Legacy profile and its progress are retained afterwards. In practice a migrated character exists in two places, and the two copies no longer follow each other.

That has two consequences for a rank. A listing that shows a rank must say which version and platform it comes from, and a rank on a Legacy profile does not carry over to a console profile, and it does not follow a separate Enhanced profile either. Rockstar's guide also lists suspensions, bans and illegitimate or insufficient progress among the reasons a profile may not be eligible for migration.

5. A checklist for a GTA Online listing

  1. Which platform and which version does the character belong to: PC Legacy, PC Enhanced, PlayStation or Xbox?
  2. What are the rank and the RP, from a dated screenshot of the in-game statistics?
  3. What are cash and bank, and which part was bought with real money?
  4. Which properties, vehicles and businesses does the character own, by name?
  5. Which Rockstar Games account is linked, and is 2-Step Verification available?

Browse the GTA V and GTA Online account category to compare what each listing states against these questions.

6. Four mistakes that cost money

Paying a premium for rank 500

Rank 500 means nearly eleven times the RP of rank 100. It does not unlock anything new.

Treating rank as assets

Properties, vehicles and money are separate from RP. Check each one.

Mixing platforms and versions

Progress does not move freely between console, PC Legacy and PC Enhanced.

Trusting a screenshot of one number

One rank figure does not show money, assets or where the progress came from.

Frequently asked questions

How much RP is rank 100?

The community wiki gives 1,584,350 RP for rank 100 and 2,165,850 RP for rank 120. Rockstar does not publish its own table, so treat the numbers as community data.

Does a higher rank unlock anything after rank 120?

According to the wiki, the Minigun at rank 120 is the last item unlock it lists. Higher ranks change the rank icon colour, but the wiki lists no further items.

Is there a maximum rank?

The wiki lists 8,000 as the highest rank. We could not find a Rockstar page that states a maximum, so the number is a community figure.

Is “level” in a listing the same as rank?

Yes. Rockstar calls it rank, while many listings and tools call it level. It is the same RP-based number.

Can rank move between consoles and PC?

No. Rockstar does not support migrating from PC to console or from console to PC. Within PC, a Legacy profile can migrate to Enhanced, and our Legacy vs Enhanced guide explains the routes.

Does a very high rank prove an account is legitimate?

No. A rank is a count of RP and says nothing about how it was earned. Rockstar's migration guide says profiles with illegitimate or insufficient progress may not be eligible for migration, so ask how the rank was reached.

Sources and editorial scope

Reviewed on 12 October 2026 against the community GTA Wiki rank page for the RP formula, the unlocks and the maximum rank, and Rockstar's PC migration instructions. Rockstar publishes no rank table, so the RP figures are community data, and the rows for ranks 200 and above are calculated from the wiki's formula. The checklist is ALVIRAN editorial advice.

Rockstar's legal terms govern accounts and virtual items. A rank or balance check does not override them or establish that an account transfer is authorised.
